This seems to be a great piece of equipment. I will not apply but I definitely recommend this road test to beginners. I already have a similar Tektronix scope and I am very happy with how it works (TEK…

    SWEET !

Thanks for the quick reply and good info.

I definitely would volunteer to Road Test this scope model.

I'd also suggest qty 20-30 scopes be made available for Road Test so all these nice folks voting YES have a decent chance to Road Test one.

    Hi Gary,

I can quickly answer this, 10x probes are included (they are considered part of the accessories supplied with it as standard in the datasheet), and the USB port does support remote control (aka USBTMC), and there's a freely downloadable ready-made piece of software called 'OpenChoice Desktop' which is awesome - very simple-to-use, it doesn't do a lot, but does it well (capture good screenshots for putting in reports). On some of the 'scopes, and perhaps this one too, there can also be a single-button save option, so that if configured to do so, then any student can put in their USB stick and press that button to capture to a file into their stick instantly - and then plug it into their laptops etc and start writing up their experiments.

Randall - I voted as a "might want to RoadTest" because the accessories provided with it aren't listed. I don't have a scope at home, so don't have any voltage or current probes. If some basic 1X or 10X voltage probes were provided,  I'd be all in.  (I use 100X HV isolated differential probes and Rogowskis at work, not good for home projects and really expensive).

By the way, I am surprised to see only USB ports without an ethernet. Even the ancient scopes I use at work have a PC interface using ethernet.

I'd love to try out remote PC control performance over USB if that is an option with this scope, altho I didnt find that downloadable software is available.

I really would want to give this scope a go and show it to colleagues and students.

Same here. Its a nice scope, even if its a bit pricey for a hobbyist (you can get more bang per buck with other manufacturers, on the cost of support and quality. The TBS is quite robust, and the fan-less design means there is no fan which gets louder over time. Being intended for the education market means its easy to use, and comes with a nice help system build in.

I reviewed the Tektronix TBS1202B-EDU Oscilloscope - Review  in the past and I can anyone recommend to apply for this one.

Since I'm not a hardware collector (Poll: What Motivates You to Apply for a RoadTest?  ) I won't apply this time.

i have the same one. It's good.

This seems to be a good instrument for many purposes and for sure I want to test it.

It will definitely miss premium models functions but serves most basic functions and would be a welcome piece of test equipment to add to my new bench.

Since this instrument is aimed at the educational market and I spent 35 years working in that space, I might be interested.  However, since joining in 2012 I have road tested three oscilloscopes for element14 and would rather let other qualified members have a shot at this review.

There is also one great, but not so visible feature: fan-less design. I haven't seen a standalone oscilloscope without a fan, yet. Good job. Fans on a workbench drive me crazy.

I won a very similar model, so I won't apply. However if I didn't have a scope, I would most definitely apply, regardless of my skill level with scopes. This scope has a very useful range of capabilities. If you have a DMM, the next instrument you need is an oscilloscope. These simpler models, are not only simpler to learn to use, their simplicity makes them quicker to use when you just need quick insight into what a circuit is doing. At work I always choose the simplest instrument that will get the job done, it is just more productive. This scope covers a huge range of applications. You can't go wrong with even an entry level Tek.

It would definitely take up less room than my old tektronix scope.
