Help needed: Lulzbot Taz can't find his home

richardzu

Hello experts,

I own a Lulzbot Taz 6, but didn't use it for a while, maybe half a year.

When I reopen it, it have problem to find home.

When I set "auto home", the Z axis keep moving down, even after hit the platform, it keep going down, try to find his home.

If I set it to print, it will do the same thing, it can't find it's start point, keep going down.

It makes very loud noise when this happen, I am afraid I will break the axis, so I have to shut it down.

Even I tried to set it back to facotry defult, it doesn't work.

Does anyone know where could be the problem? How can I solve it?

Looking forward to hear from you guys,

Thank you!

Hi richardzu , From my experience with the Taz 6 this is down to two things: - The nozzle is dirty, so it's not making a good connection, clean it, perhaps with some fine sandpaper, or heat it up to 220degC…

    Hello Richard,

If you try printing, chances are it might still have issues as the homing cycle is usually the starting point for any slicer. I don't own a Taz 6 but by looking at it, this is what I'd do based on the fact that it has a limit push-button for the Z-axis:

    • The first thing I'd to is trying to get support from Aleph Objects -their support is prompt to my knowledge-.
    • Try the homing cycle just for the X,Y axis, it must correctly work. X and Y homing will move the Bed towards one end and same for the printing head. This step is important as the homing on the Z-axis depends on this one usually (to correctly position the head on the sensors and on the cleaning pad).
    • Try the homing cycle on the Z-axis, if the Taz 6 has a homing Z-stop push-button  -my guess is- that the homing should start on top of this button or position on top of this eventually (that is why X,Y should work correctly before hand). You could try the Z-homing and manually pushing the button to see if this stops the Z-axis movement, if it does not, maybe such button is not working.
    • Dirty print head: one cause of incorrect Z-homing may be a dirty nozzle. Lulzbot printers have auto-leveling which is calibrated by generating contact between the nozzle and 4 metal discs (one on each corner of the bed). If the nozzle is dirty, such contact may never happen.

    Luis

    Hi richardzu ,

From my experience with the Taz 6 this is down to two things:

    - The nozzle is dirty, so it's not making a good connection, clean it, perhaps with some fine sandpaper, or heat it up to 220degC and clean it off.

    - You need to manually off-set the Z height, either from the menu's or you need to hand-turn the lead screws for the Z axis and square things up.

Lulzbot's documentation suggests that you get a ruler, or measuring stick, and ensure that both of the locations where the carriage attaches to the lead screws are the same distance away from the top of the frame as each other.

Lulzbot's guide on setting the Z offset is here: https://www.lulzbot.com/learn/tutorials/Z-axis-offset

Lulzbot guide on squaring up your 3D printer is here: https://ohai.lulzbot.com/project/squaring-taz-6-frame/

Follow these guides and you should be set.

    Hello guys,

Thank you all for your kindly reply.

The problem solved, simple and stupid. Few weeks ago I moved to a new home, in order to make the transportation, I disambled the printer and reassambled it.

When I reassambled it, I mistakenly offset the bed like 5 cm. So the printer head can never touch the Home button on back left corner.

That is it. I moved the bed a little bit, then everything is fine now.

Thank you all for help, you do helped me.

    Best regards,

    Richard
