Would it be possible to use 3D slicer software (for a 3D printer) and a laser cuter to cut out the layers (instead of a 3D printer)? Tim

I think so, I use repetier, and it uses slic3r, repetier allows you to choose no extruder for things like cnc, slic3r lets you tweak it, you will have to read up or play with it to figure out the settings, it helps to already use this in 3d printing before attempting cnc etc.
