Hello,
I am a proud owner of a MakerBot 5th Gen 3D printer. I love it and it prints great using PLA. It makes excellent rafts! I am starting to experiment with printer settings (temperature, speed, layer height) just to see for myself what happens in my environment. I am curious to see if I can print without a raft or blue painter tape directly on the glass. (very smooth surfaces when attempted) I have used hairspray which works great at first but as the lower layers cool (even when using rafts), they will eventually come free prior to the print completing. I have checked other printers and I see ultimaker has a heated glass bed which looks really cool. (no pun intended) But what to do with MakerBot?
I am living in New England and February 2015 has been wonderful for travel agents. A few days ago, as I turned on the rear window defrost, I wondered, gee could a 'defroster' be added to the glass bed of a makerbot? It doesn't have to be hot, just warm.
So here is my question to the group: Are there "off the shelf" methods or hacks to add 'lines' to heat a standard (non tempered) glass bed found on a MakerBot 5th gen?
Just curious. I would imagine Ben may have already thought of this and possibly made the hack. My hope is that it is a simple hack consisting of painting conductive paint on the glass and attaching some low voltage to it.
Any feedback welcome.
Thanks,
Vince
