3D Printer Power Supply Amperage

HI folks,

 

I noticed today (as look may have it) my 3D printer was smoking. image On closer inspection I noticed the power terminal on the RAMPS board was melting and smoking. Don't worry, at this point I quickly unplug from the mains.

 

The power supply is 220v (I live in the UK) with a 12v and 20A ouput. I'm wondering if the power supply is faulty or the cable from the power supply cannot handle the power/amps.

 

Any ideas? I have a spare PC power supply will that do if needed?

    Yes 25A is fine as long as it isn't too big to fit into the terminals.

    That's great. Personally I would leave it soldered, it's not something I would really need to disconnect. Brian

    Neil-

    Sorry I'm a bit late but Brian stated it pretty well.  One thing I have also ran into with 3d printing electronic boards is a lot of the cheaper Chinese made ones have at times burned and smoked as you stated.  Just lower quality parts used.  The typical power supplied for the RAMPS should be 12V >16A (20A optimal) if running a heated bed.  Soldering to the board should not be a problem just wont be easy if have to change something.
