3D Printer Power Supply Amperage

HI folks,

I noticed today (as look may have it) my 3D printer was smoking. On closer inspection I noticed the power terminal on the RAMPS board was melting and smoking. Don't worry, at this point I quickly unplug from the mains.

The power supply is 220v (I live in the UK) with a 12v and 20A ouput. I'm wondering if the power supply is faulty or the cable from the power supply cannot handle the power/amps.

Any ideas? I have a spare PC power supply will that do if needed?

Hi Neil, To me this sounds like it could be a bad connection on the RAMPS board power terminal as that what was getting hot. It's important for these high current connections are clean and tight. If you have a heated bed then they usually take about 10 amps and the hot end another 3 to 4 amps plus add a couple for the steppers, fans and electronics.
