About a year ago, I switched from PLA to PETG. Strong prints, less warping, and it isn't excessively expensive compared to PLA.
I also have several bright colors in ColorFABB's nGEN. That's probably my favorite filament to print with, but it isn't cheap.
I used to print with PLA, but now slowly moving to PETG.
In my office, when designing enclosures for electronic items we use PLA for initial iterations and ABS for final mockup.
To me it really depends on the application I will use the 3D printed object.
PLA is the "go to" material for general purpose stuff without particular requirements, probably 80% of what I print
PETG if I need a little bit more heat resistance or ABS if I need heat resistance and ease of post proceessing (it can be easily glued, can be machined beautifully and it's easy to smooth)
TPU for compliant or "soft" objects
PA+CF because it's cool, almost never used except for some small part on my RC car where high mechanical properties are essentials
I use PLA. Never tried other filaments. But would love to give other filaments a try
