To me it really depends on the application I will use the 3D printed object.
PLA is the "go to" material for general purpose stuff without particular requirements, probably 80% of what I print
PETG if I need a little bit more heat resistance or ABS if I need heat resistance and ease of post proceessing (it can be easily glued,can be machined beautifully and it's easy to smooth)
TPU for compliant or "soft" objects
PA+CF because it's cool, almost never used except for some small part on my RC car where high mechanical properties are essentials
