I have been trying to find a clear description of what the issue is with the throtle. I heard something on the radio this morning about it being a magnet on sprung hinged joint the can stick, but have been abkle to find and good visuals of what part is at fault.
I'm interested as I also heard that there is some discussion as to wether this is a software or hardware issue.
Does anyone have a link to a picture or drawing of the offending part?
P.S. I hear also that Toyota may have issues with the braking system on the new prius, has anyone heard anything about this?
Thanks Derrick.
Thanks Derrick.
How about reducing the amount of software in a car. Why is a software actuated throttle better than a Bowden cable operated throttle? The Bowden cable is simple, cheap, reliable, fixable. The software solution is neither of these things. Maybe the software solution could yield a small improvement in MPG, but for sure when it fails there will be a time when the repair cost (so called "computer board") will be too expensive relative to the perceived value of the car and the car will be scrapped. The environmental cost of scrapping an otherwise usable car must exceed that of the small extra MPG of the software solution? This also of course extends to some of the other software solutions in the car. Heaven forbid when they start introducing steering by wire!
