Election 2016 - The day after... your thoughts?

Catwell

Four years ago, I wrote a comparison of Obama and Romney - who would be better for the engineering world. The results were pretty clear.

I didn't do that this year, figuring we were done with the stagnation of pre 2008. And in 2012, I thought there was a plan for rapid recovery in the engineering job market. Employment rates are great, improving every day.

We were moving on. The results ended up a lot different than I imagined.

I couldn't do any research on the "plans" of the candidates anyway. So, now it is a wait an tell if we continue the recovery.

What are your thoughts? Are engineers poised for continued growth in the job market, or back to pre-2008 level?

While I'd love to discuss the finer points of the Election outcome, I'm rather busy digging a fallout shelter and stocking up on tinned goods at the moment.

As with the others, I do not like to discuss politics in this forum.

All I can say is that the US election system worked and the will of the people has been made.

It will take time to determine if the change is good or bad, but that is the nature of all changes.  History will judge.

I have great hopes that the US and the world can pull out of its current death spiral of no growth and resume a positive advancement to the benefit of all.

That said, change is coming, it is up for each country to decide how it wants to respond.  If positive, all can benefit, if not, then we know where obtuse positions result.

    Just my opinion,

    DAB

Hey Don, what's the meaning of obtuse positions, for non-native speakers?

I searched for the term but google returned info about angles only. Nothing to help me put the comment in context.

    Good point,

I guess I am referring to people who establish non-negotiable positions.

By definition, everything should be negotiable if you want agreements that benefit both sides.

If you adopt an extreme position without any recourse, then the negotiations are over and both sides lose.

Everyone needs to understand, Trump is a deal maker.  He can only make deals if he feels the terms are fair.  Therefore, everyone dealing with him will need to fully understand his definition of fair and consider their options.
