Hi!

Do enyone know how i can make a led turn on that uses 3 volts, when a voltage has reached 330volts?

Hi Magnus, Just some additional information that may be of help. In the old days I used to work on battery powered camera flashes. They would run off 3V or 6V battery power. An oscillator would charge…

Here is the outline of a window comparator I ripped off from RCA, if I recall correctly:

I'm sorta Corel-ed out for today and am called away anyway.  Tomorrow, by the grace of the fates, I will post some implementation details and post some Schmidts that are faster-than-op-amp!

    Good morning Don,

I hope all is well in your world. I read your 'starship screen' blog and thoroughly enjoyed your writing style. Your colorful use of metaphor keeps me smiling. From my perspective your grasp of the theory is so good that you assume competence in your readers that is not in evidence at least in my case. At least for me this is great. I like to be challenged and have no delusion about my position in the big scheme of things. A couple of questions if you don't mind. In posting #9 you say that the feed back resistor should be >> than rA || rB. Does rA || rB mean the resistance of A compared to the resistance of B? Which of the resistors in the diagram are A and B. How can one resistor be a lot greater than the comparison of 2 others? I may have my interpretation of the symbols off here.

I liked your idea to use high voltage zenners to select the voltage  to trigger the opto-isolator. If my understanding of this circuit is correct we would not see any current flow until the breakdown voltage of the zenners was exceeded at which point the opto-isolator could trigger an op amp or other device capable of driving the indicator LED. This would be the exact idea that would answer Magnus's Question. The zenner idea could be scaled down to whatever voltage Magnus decides to use in his experiment. Note to Magnus: If you are still following this conversation I would recommend making posting #11 by Don as having answered your question. Don, I look forward to more of your lesson on Schmitts and Op Amps.

    John
