XBox One S Powers down when HDMI Plugged in.

I have an XBox One S  with the following symptoms, I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction to narrow down the problem component/s

  • Unit powers up with no problem if the HDMI cable is not plugged in. Soon as I plug in the HDMI cable it shuts off
    • I have checked the connector and it is in good shape with no obvious faults
  • I can plug the cable into the XBox but not the TV and it will boot fine.
    • Soon as I plug it into the TV it shuts down
  • I have checked for shorts around the re-timer chip and can't find any

So any suggestions how I should proceed from here?

Here are a bunch of things to try:

To isolate what subsystem is the issue you can test the cable and TV with some other equipment to make sure they work.

THat is not the issue , but thanks for the input. I have used this for a very long time with the TV without issue.

I will read that link and see if there is anything I can try. TY  I have tested the TV and the cable , and both test fine.  This issue happens on another TV as well with another cable.  I appreciate the response.

Seems like you already isolated the problem: the Xbox.

Could the connector on the Xbox itself is damaged. Or it could be something more serious behind the connector.

I have checked the connector and it seems fine ( not damaged) I am going to try replacing the retimer chip and maybe that will do it, or at the very least rule it out.

Did you try to reset the console to factory defaults?

Are you sure of where the issue is at? My first thought is to narrow down the problem to the cable, TV or XBox.

    Replace cable.

    Try another TV.

If the problem persists it is something in the XBox.

I have tried both of those things. I feel it is definitely in the xbox.
