Wixey circuit board

Does anyone know what the circuit board looking device on a Wixey Saw Fence Digital Readout is called? How does it work? Thanks, Roger

Roger,

It is a digital position readout. There is an encoder strip that is attached to the saw, and this device can read the encoded position and create a reading that tells the position of the fence.
