A hard quiz, but googling for safety standards for answers was not my expectation.

Ahhh, I did not see the resource page. Much easier than duckduckgo searching for safety standards. Now I see it. But wait, it's not a text that you read and learn, it's a . . . solution.

Didn't find the Resource document for this quiz until after I had taken the quiz which wasn't helpful. I must be just looking in all the wrong places somehow as this isn't the first time I've had this problem. Still, managed 56% on my first attempt - which was pretty amazing as I know almost knowing about this area. I must be getting better at guessing. Took me ages to get the rest right though.

I was always getting into trouble at the University because I didn't 'do' enough safety. I just assumed it was part of the learning process in the workshop for students to injure themselves and bleed (it's how I learnt). Apparently not. They hadn't had any bleeding students for years before I arrived. Must have been a coincidence. I was also amazed when it turned out they had a special blood squad to come and clear up the blood, I was just going to get a bit of paper towel after the ambulance had gone. It was at the time when AIDS was first becoming prevalent.

PS The student was fine, he was in the workshop the following week as wasn't at all bothered. Turned out he had never used a hacksaw before in his life. How can you get to 18 without using a hacksaw!

I have only ever been taught 4 safety concepts:

    1. Always keep your hand/fingers behind a sharp edge (school).
    2. Keep your hands and fingers well clear of rotating objects, especially sharp ones (school).
    3. Never, or hardly ever image, work on a live circuit (my first Saturday job).
    4. Keep one hand in your pocket when using a probe to test for voltage (my first Saturday job).

neilk I've heard #4 throughout my electrical career.  I like the concept.

    I hope we can agree that it doesn't work for differential measurements; Phase A to B, B to C, C to A, A to N, B to N, C to N.

When I taught at the technical college, I made a big deal about how to safely make those measurements.

Move one hand at a time - very deliberately.  Same pattern.  Never rush.  ALWAYS!

My company recently hired a guy that I taught some 12 years ago and that is what he remembers from the class.

    I'm calling that a "win".

kmikemoo fortunately, I think, I've never worked with 3 phase!
