Hi all, I’ve a project coming up that’s a great candidate for some remote reporting of operational data, not too high volume I think, but covering quite a wide area, so despite me being keen to try a LoRa solution, I know that really I need to go with 4G for ease of deployment.
I’m going to try and run MQTT over it, as secure as I can as it’s a trial deployment, but I thought I’d ask for opinions of good embedded 4G modem modules that I can integrate easily with a PIC24F device?
Integrated Glonass / GPS would be advantageous, and it’ll be deployed around a big city in the UK. Power isn’t too much of an issue for this application, I’m fairly tight on space though, and am happy working at the AT command level.
Alternative options I’ve considered include sub 1GHz, and either WiFi or Bluetooth, and I could build on some Roadtests I’ve done of TI SinpleLink devices, but then I’ll need to head down there and do a “drive-by” to gather the data, and these will be in publicly accessible spaces so I’d rather not present a WiFi hotspot to the world!
Please let me have your thoughts and experiences with anything similar, and I’ll try and blog about the experience too, although possibly not the data itself I’m afraid as that might not go down too well with the customer.
A
