IoT Development: How Easy is It to Develop with the MangOH?

element14 provided to one of our element14 community engineers a mangOH Green Starter Kit and asked him to build a device to cloud solution with the mangOH’s pre-built platform. Then we chose a different kind of product, the Texas Instruments' MSP 430 LaunchPad plus the CC3100 Boosterpack, and asked him to build a device to cloud solution. We were interested in learning just how easy it was to develop IoT solutions with the mangOH. is blogging about his experience.

    It's certainly an odd comparison the core module in the Mango is an Air Prime  WP8548WP8548 at$85 for 250 which is being compared with a TI processor and RF chip that cost under$10 with the necessary extra bits in the same quantity

    These products are not aimed at the same applications - I can't see that comparing them makes much sense - you wouldn't consider the two of them for the same product in real life.

    I knew they were different products. But we were trying to do a comparison between building a device-to-cloud solution from scratch versus doing it with pre-built, tools. That was the main focus. So, the mangoh came out this year. It's pre-built with a cloud platform (AirVantage). The Launchpad was our build from scratch choice; TI doesn't have a M2M/IoT Cloud per se but it has cloud partners.  So, the question is: which one is easier to use. Which one is easier to get to the cloud? Advantages/Disadvantages, etc. Good point about price. Perhaps a better title would be: IoT Product Development: Build from Scratch or Use Pre-Built Tools?
