What's the dumbest thing you could sense and connect to the internet?

cstanton

At first, I thought "how about the internet of showers?" then realised monitoring of water consumption, moisture, bacteria levels, and general use was probably sensible.

Then I thought "what about shovels?" then I figured this is more like it, there's probably not a lot you could gain from connecting a capacitive sensor to a shovel, or detect soil humidity and acidity while you dig, or know you're digging into a pipe if you keep going, well, maybe I'm starting to actually convince myself it is sensible here.

This isn't working.

Someone convince me, what's the dumbest thing you could sense and connect to the internet? There's got to be something superfluous.

IoT = Internet of Toilets? Flush quantity and frequency posted to twitter: https://twitter.com/iotoilets?lang=en https://github.com/dm8tbr/internetoftoilets/blob/master/device/iot.py

That's almost sensible... because you could work out when the toilet roll needs replacing and how much time your staff spends slacking off o.O (apparently the latter's been a thing in some companies).

Hah, maybe stick a microphone to the glass? We had a pheasant come out of nowhere one christmas and hit the glass of the front of our house, no idea where it came from! So it made a fine dinner for a relative... maybe if you work this one out I could do the same for my car windscreen for flies hitting it in the summer.

Perhaps not the cows, I'm sure Dudley will discover he couldn't blame the dog anymore (are farts even individually identifiable? I'm not sure I want to know the answer to that one)

If they were then the next smartphone security could be IFF  -  Iris Fingerprint and Fart .

How about a "How far forward you sit on the seat" detector! Surely that can't be useful!

You could relate that to material type/composition and sell the info back to clothing manufacturers.

I think you'll find that this one relates to pasture management.

Cows eat, then spend time digesting through their 4 stomachs.

The secret is to give the herd enough grass to process and conserve untouched pasture for the next feed cycle.

So maybe not the dumbest, but certainly a website that needs better information.
