Sensor that can detect short range obstruction

Former Member
Former Member over 9 years ago

Hi Community,

I'm planning on a creating a device that would be helpful for blind people to detect short range obstruction from waist above that walking sticks can't. What type of motion sensor would be preferred for this situation? I also plan on connecting it to a raspberry pi device?

I saw a device made by some students for a final year project at Curtin University that used Ultrasonic. The application was suitable as they wanted it to be used as a walking stick but I can a few problems…

    Hi,

An ultrasonic sensor should do your work at the primary level.

Also, you may set range for the ultrasonic sensor so that it will work only for the short range (say, 1-5 metres).

Do let me know of your progress.
