Home labs of electronics engineers?

tin_xdevs

Or should I say more, caves? That's what volt-nutting can bring you into:

Home lab

Most of gear was saved from scrapping by repairs. Collected stuff over last 5 years or so. DMM collection quickly grew after getting into precision DC voltage obsessions, with voltage references and such.

Total list of gear as by today:

6 x Keithley 2001 DMM (2 still need some repairs)

1 x Keithley 2002

1 x Keithley 2000 (not shown here)

1 x Keithley 2400 SMU

1 x Keithley 2510 TEC SMU

HP 4263B (LCR Meter)

HP 33120A ARB 15MHz

Tektronix CSA7404 with pair of P7380 probes  TCA-1MEGTCA-1MEG some P6245's

Tektronix TLA714 with TLA7AA4 and set of probes (P6810, 2 x P6860, some mictor adapters, etc)

EDC MV106 DC Voltage standard (+-30ppm)

Few selfmade LM399 and Linear LTZ1000 stable references

ESI DB52 decade resistor

ERSA ICON1 soldering iron

Bunch of Vishay Precision Group 0.2ppm resistors for testing/calibration.

Hi Illya, Wow, What a beautiful concentration of precision. It looks like you have a variety of projects in the works too. I have recently up graded my shop area in the basement. It is always a work in…

I'd like to see this at the Smithsonian (among a lot of other things, natch). They've recreated Ralph Baer's home workshop as an exhibition, and his original Brown Box console prototypes are there too…

I think a take away for any new engineers looking at our labs and wondering how we get alot of get like we do, HARD WORK but fun work. we work extreamly hard (Probably in excess of a hundred hours a month in my case) helping in the Element 14 community and on our own personal blogs like my own YouTube channel TheBreadboardCA it eventually gets noticed and vendors start sending you things for review and like a RoadTest, you get to keep it afterwards and get more if you do a good job. Look at the Community level of many of the LAB Owners or comenters  above , their TOP MEMBERS and very high in the E14 points system, this means they have been working very hard consistently for many years to help you, Element 14 recognises this and on occasion helps us out to help you by providing special road tests, early releases of product (Not always big, often as simple as an evaluation board or something from TI, AMEL or others). If you only ever show up when a road test is available, well you might get the road test but thats it, other things wont come your way, but if you work hard, support the community and others then eventually that hard work will pay off and people will notice

Look at the E14 Top Members notice for instance:- Top Members

and look at channels like the  Workshopshed - Making and repairing things in a shed at the bottom of the garden ,  EEVBLOG, Martin Lorton, Ian Johnston, some are not full time but all of those channels are on my fav list and all the owners work very hard to provide quality content to the community (Not nexessaraly E14 but the EE Community at large)

So WORK HARD, HAVE FUN, BE PASSIONATE and record and SHARE everything image about what you do and the rest will come in time.

    Peter

Vishay Bulk Metal - made specially for me by one of their engineer

Made a tear on my eye... I had to pay big moneys for my foils.

Perhaps I could make a post about them, like a guide how to spend some $$$$ on 20pcs of resistors..

They are expensive but cant be beat, and if you consider that for 0$$$ extra they will make what ever value you want so if you need sa a 1.23456K, that will cost the same as a standard 1K and the temo co of these resistors means you can almost forget about worring about it, if you can survive it, the resistor will still be at the correct value pretty much

I am amazed about how well these metal foil resistors perform (Providing you dont abuse them)
