Thermocouple Type T and Type K - Is it compatible?

I purchased MAX6675. According to the datasheet, it said  "It accepts the input from a type-K thermocouple and converts the temperature to 12-bit data."


It is however, I purchase thermocoupler type-T instead of type-K, due to some mistake. Is type-T and type-K compatible to each other. From what I know, the temperature range, and sensitivity is different. It is confusing me that, MAX6675 is only for type-K thermocouple. Why is it?

  • The MAX6675 is full of cleverness to compensate for the scale factor and cold junction temperature of a K type thermocouple and output the digitized temperature in degrees. You could use a T type thermocouple and re-compensate external to the MAX6675 but it is a not a very good idea. You'll need a good understanding of thermocouples and the chip to do it. You would do much better to exchange the T type for a K type.
