Adjustable power supply

Question

Hi, does anyone know how does an adjustable DC power supply usually get their energy source? Is it connected to an electrical socket like a normal electrical appliance?

And i have another question: does it have an inbuilt rectifier, or does it require an additional rectifier to function?

Hi Naziah, Typically an adjustable DC power supply gets its power from a standard AC wall socket, but you can get some that run off DC batteries. The ones that run on AC always have an internal rectifier. Usually the DC output is isolated from the AC input, but not always - this should be checked. Some of them have a third connection for chassis ground which may be connected to the ground in the AC wall socket.
