I am in the market for a programmable DC load and I have been looking at MP710258 US  DC Electronic Load, Multicomp PRO Electronic Loads, 150 W, Programmable, 0 V, 120 V, 30 A device Multicomp Pro MP10258Multicomp Pro MP10258.  Does anyone have any experience with this device?

I have recently added a Multicomp Pro, MP730027 DMM Multicomp Pro MP730027 DMMMulticomp Pro MP730027 DMM to my bench and I have been supper happy with the price/performance of this device, so I am really curious about some of their other instruments.

Thanks, I had no idea about your library. I'm just here for discussion of electronic loads. Multicomp PRO MP710258 DC Electronic Load Operator's Manual

    Hi Gene,

I looked into the sister model a while back and the issue was no documentation for SCPI which was a deal breaker for me.  I don’t know if that has changed. The thread is here:  https://www.element14.com/community/message/298715/l/kel103-scpi-programmers-manual#298715

The multicomp DC loads are very similar to other products on the market (like the Kel103).  I did find some communication protocols manuals from a similar model (very likely the same protocol).  Here is a link to the site with the manuals.

    https://www.distrelec.biz/en/electronic-dc-load-120v-30a-300w-rnd-lab-rnd-320-kel103/p/30126024

There is a download for "Communication Commands with Computer.pdf" which looks like what you may have been looking for.

That is a good find!  The reason I have been reluctant is that I have had mixed luck with Multicomp instruments and SCPI.  A power supply I bought didn't have the SCPI documentation on the Newark site but I was able to figure the commands out by trying various common commands for power supplies.  Gough Lui subsequently found a rebranded supply like mine which confirmed the commands I had sussed out.  Then I purchased my Multicomp LCR meter and found that not all the commands in the manual work and some that do are intermittent and not reliable.  I've not had any problems with the other instruments.

However, that DC load is priced very well, and should you find it works well I'd be interested to hear as I am still in the market for one.
