Tenma 21-10115 soldering station

Former Member
Former Member over 9 years ago

Hi all,

looking to replace an old soldering station with a newer model and currently researching possible alternatives.  I noticed this very reasonably priced Tenma model sold by Farnell http://uk.farnell.com/tenma/21-10115-uk/soldering-station-60w-220v-uk/dp/2064549?MER=bn_para_1TP_Echo_2

Have been reading mixed reviews and watched this video which appears to show the same station under the Atten brand name, it appears to only have 3 wires going to the iron, supply and earth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRb1_DB234Q So curious how the temperature can be controlled accurately if this is the case Or does the Tenma  21-1011521-10115 have extra wires for temperature sensing

Thanks,

Ant

I have and use a Tenma 21-7945 21-7945 It is barely worth the cost(which I forget The cage that holds the Soldering Iron keeps coming out of its slot on the base It don't seem to be Hot enough compared…

    Just my 2C worth

A soldering iron is one of those things worth investing in for the long haul, I too have up till recently had a Weller for close to 40 Years, it is temperature controlled using a magnestat tip (A magnetic tip that looses its magnetic field at a set temperature (The Curie point) and this controls the temperature.

Weller recently gifted me a brand new just new on the market WXR 3 soldering station will all the addons. and this is the only reason I have no moved away from using my older weller iron. I did buy other irons over the years thinking ai would get a better one (How could I not after all these years), but alas it was not the case and I always reverted back to the weller. I tried Aten, Radio Shack, Others etc.

I also made a video about the new one on my channel here (Sorry but this was a sponsor collaboration between RS and Weller but E14 also sell this brand ) the point is about quality German engineering vs mediocre quality that won't last long):-

Dont skimp on your primary tools. You can but it once and have it last a lifetime or buy often and be disappointed, either way you will end up spending the same or more money

To PO: Great post and video. I'm going Weller when my Tenma breaks down OR more likely  (I get frustrated) when I throw it out the window. I remember the magnetic Soldering Tip on my deceased Weller but IDK it was for temperature-control. I remember I had (un-knowingly) left my Weller "on "for whole week w/o any consequences. BTW that Weller WXR 3003 Rework Station looks Great. But Sadly, it has way too many functions that I will never use. I probably buy some more Electronics Test Equipment (like that on your Test Bench) b/f I get a WXR 3003. BTW2 with it vacuum-capacity, might you say that the WXR 3003 "SUCKS?" But in a good way. LOL

Yes, it also "Blows" lol, with the hot air soldering pencil. and includes a SMD parts handler so also sucks just a little image

But on the other hand, Weller has each part available as separate units that can be used with single use base stations so you don't have to spend thousands to get into the line

It is amazing how much power they pack into this thing. A total of about 400 - 600W of tools can be connected at once... wow
