Cool Tools To Giveaway for a Blog Review

rscasny
rscasny over 7 years ago

I kind of figured that anyone who considers him or herself a maker has a toolbox or a bench of tools they treasure. When I did technical work, I had my big tool box and a briefcase of my go-to tools, including a multimeter, driver set, sockets, extender magnet, etc. These were my cool tools. What are yours?

We are launching a cool tools campaign at element14 where we roadtest and giveaway some tools we think are pretty cool.

Cool Tools Giveaway for a Blog Review

Would you like to get any of these tools, play around with them, and write a blog review? I'm looking for a few members who are really into tools to do the reviews. Below are the tools I have to offer. If you are interested, drop me a line in the comments below. Tell me about your cool tools and persuade me to send you off any of these tools. And all you need to do for it is write a blog review on element14.

I started with 'making'(tearing down) stuff at a tender age and have gone through a lot of stuff. Unfortunately, I lost a big chunk of my tools in a burglary years ago and am left with only a large hammer…

My favorite tools are the ones that I have performed modifications on. When you twist a tool to your own purposes you make a special bond with it. Here are three of the tools which I have modified to do…

    Hi Luis!

    Nice set of tools!

The PA-09 is quite functional, but there is a cheaper tool (at least in the UK) and I reckon better too, the HT-225DHT-225D.

Although the PA-09 works, I find that the pins stick inside the tool after crimping, and require a lot of force (sometimes bending the part : ( to pull it out. Maybe I'm too heavy-handed with it.

Also, two crimp operations are needed, for the conductor and the insulator, which slows things down.

The  HT-225DHT-225D does the conductor and insulator all in one go and the part doesn't stick or get bent Also it is more easier and comfortable to use(because of ratchet and fatter handles

I've done maybe 1000 crimps with the  HT-225DHT-225D now and it has been very reliable with consistent results If you use the PA-09 a lot then I recommend giving the  HT-225DHT-225D a go I think you'll be really pleased

    Hello Shabaz,

You are absolutely right!. I have the very same issues with my PA-09. I think it works for me because fits all the common sizes of crimping pins I regularly use and kinda got used to its weakness, but definitely will be trying in the future another option like the one you've suggested.

    @GordonMargulieux,

I am not sure if something like this ( equipment surplus store) exists in Germany or even at a European level. I have seen many options for America but here it is rather difficult to find something equivalent in a yard sale or a flea market.

Not so many electronics enthusiasts here it seems.

I keep looking the ebay second hand store which is very popular in Germany.

There is something called vorführgeräte here or like demo equipments one can get too.

I used to do dumpster diving near the university but alas it has also been not so helpful in the last 2 years. All I got my hands on was some casing and cables that I cut from old pcs.

Maybe someone else can shed more light on it

    or

I can start a thread for it then collect some experience of others. imageimage

    Cheers,

    Hello snidhi,

How are you planning to use the microscope?, If you already own a DSLR and a tripod that can be used while you find one and, if more magnification is required there are cheap-o options like adding an Auto Focus Macro Extension tubes.

    Micnova KK-C68 Pro Auto Focus Macro Extension Tube Set for Canon EOS EF & EF-S Mount 5D2 5D3 6D 650D 750D (12mm 20mm and 36mm Tubes)

UPS turned up this afternoon with a surprise parcel for me containing the Wera set image. Thank you rscasny. I've given the set a bit of a work out already but plan to stick it on my belt at work for the rest of the week (at very least) and use it as my tool of choice. I will do a blog write-up on it at the weekend with plenty of pictures. My initial observations are that it is very well made and well thought out in design.

    Hi all!

Just got some more tools in.

I'll post pics of them here.

I will be selecting more people to give tools to.

    Stay tuned.

(I went to the dentist this morning....so I'm still catching up!)

Be interesting to see how you get on with the bit set. I have just purchased a Milwaukee drill and driver set to replace my broken Ryobi drill.

They are great tools and seem very robust after a couple of weeks work panelling out the new workshop.

    Kind regards
