Cool Tools Bench Awards 2018

Hello Community Members and happy June.

It is officially summertime here at the element14 offices, which is enough of a reason to celebrate but as we batted around some ideas we thought - why don't we involve the Community in some fun?  We have already been asking you about your favorite tools for our RoadTest reviews and now we'd like to present to you the Cool Tools Bench Awards!

image

Starting today and going through the entire month of June, we want you to submit photos and/or videos of your own bench or workspace for other Community members to see.  Then in the month of July we'll pick out some winners every week and send them some of our favorite Cool Tools chosen by us and other Community members like the ones below:

I have been accused of not really doing any electronics on my bench, but I actually do projects quite often. Perhaps it is Mom's fault as she always insisted that I pickup my toys at the end of each day…

This is a fun contest, but most of my lab bench is still packed until a have a more permanent facility. I currently only have unpacked those pieces I really need in my work. But with that said, here a…

Okay - this series of workspace images should be good for a chuckle... First up is my computing office - note all the project boxes on either side of the desk - these are some of my current projects in…

    Hello everybody,

Here I do mostly small electronics and jewelery (usually at the same time, interlacing image). My whole laboratory is a room cca 2x4 m (room for laboratory was a crucial factor when we were buying an apartment). Parts and material are on shelves on the opposite side of this bench. There I also store some ancient measurement equipment (beautiful devices!). I have there another, more tidy and clean table (hidden above the boxes with gigabyte box on top), where my computer is and where I repair watches (by the window -> better light). Larger devices I repair on the floor in the entrance hall and weapons I make on the balcony.

    Jindrich

Great organization. This was worth waiting for the administrators to clear for publication. It looks like you have a bigger label machine than I do.

    Hi Warren,

Your bench reminds me of mine when I used to do audio equipment servicing. You have the amp and speakers and audio I/O on the panel in front of the bench. Very nice.

    Thank you John.

In fact, the less things I have, the more I appreciate them. I am a fan of minimalism and always looking for ways to optimize the inventory. Only quality tools are kept and electronics that will be used (hopefully). I had tons of development kits in the past, but in reality I can only use one or two platforms at a time, so why keep the rest. Life is so much simplier if I have fewer choices image

On the other hand, if I had an oscilloscope and a bench power supply, the table would be full. Also, more space would be needed for power electronics etc. However the MCU development itself doesn’t require much space.

I think that the the staff, looking at the mess pictured in the photos, had a sort of stroke and chose to preserve the health of sensible readers.

I had that happen once. You will have to wait until the staff comes in tomorrow and they will straighten out he problem. Could be you have a top secret research facility for a lab?
