How's the kit?

I'm seeing a lot of photo's showing the inside of boxes, and screenshots of software, how're you finding the kit, what do you think about it so far? Is it what you expected?

I'm interested in seeing some discussions and opinions, and hearing any difficulties anyone's having (or finding it surprisingly manageable!)

The Wurth Elektronik WL-ICLEDs in the 5050-size are probably the easiest to work with given the breakouts supplied - getting them working on a breadboard is not too difficult if you can master the SMD…

Yes we are extending the final deadline to midnight UK time on Sunday 16th November to give everyone extra time with the kit, receive additional parts they have ordered, and make their final updates

very comprehensive kit. quite difficult to work with with universal prototyping boards(for the smallest ones), and no tests yet with custom PCBs. I wish the examples Würth provided in their Github were…

    Hi,

I have not applied for the kit, but I got some PCB/A and I can say something based on that. So some of the LEDs are quite small in size and they might be hard to solder without expertise to do so. Hence, I decided to do a PCB design so that I can reduce the amount of soldering that is required. Also, I learned that many improvements are possible in my PCB design.

One nice thing is that Wurth has many different kinds of LEDs for various use cases. For example, some LEDs have higher color depth. i.e. number of bits are up to 12 bits for each R, G, B channel. Other thing is that some LEDs have bypass function, that makes it possible to bypass a specific LEDs in case they are damaged or not functioning as expected. This will keep the other LEDs on despite malfunctioning of individual LED.

I think that these LEDs have different use cases based on various factors such as size, application, cost, power budget, complexity, etc. One can use this challenge kit to address this.
