Upcycle It - Funeka - The Skull #4 : The Anatomy

Hi guys,

Say hello to funeka, the skull.

image

After salvaging the parts and before ruining the skull i took a close look of the skull and started to clearly plan out things.

The jaw were attached using a set of springs.

those were really hard springs, the motor or the stepper couldn't have enough torque to pull it.image

So I decided to replace the spring with a piece of elastic so the motor could pull.

image

Further placing a motor on the top is not possible, again the same torque issue. So decided to keep the motor below the skull inside the box. So I put a screw

and the tiny motor is able to pull it image.imageimage

I ordered a pair of doll eyes from, this came the eyes are too small but, I decided to use them as such. imageimage

For the ocular movement,I've designed a simple mechanism i'll be 3d printing shortly, Have decided to control them using the servo that came in the Grove Starter Kit. Since I've been provided with two Intel Edisons, I'm also thinking of using them both, since they'll help in reducing code complexity and will save a lot of time. The other steppers and motors I extracted??, I've planned something else image

Cheers,

Sakthi

Nice post. I see a lot of interesting variations on your plan. Lots of uses for an automated skull. DAB
