Helping eyes for soldering

I love electronics and programming. The other day I bought an arduino compatible board and it needs headers solder onto it. I have the tools, the solder, everything, even helping hands with a magnifying glass. There's one problem, I'm legally blind and soldering is not within the grasp of my vision at 20/125. So, I'm thinking, I have a 32 inch flat screen hooked to my computer and Raspberry pi, what could we do with this to make a blind guy soldering station?

  • I take it from your description that you want to use the RPi camera to enlarge the area that you want to do soldering on?

     

    Given your vision issues, you can probably use just about any web-cam plus some directed lights to give you enough contrast and magnification to do an adequate job.

     

    It may take you some time to adjust your movements to account for the magnification, but I don't think that there should be any wrong with making a setup to do what you want.

     

    Please keep us informed on your build and experiences so we can continue to provide suggestions.

     

    You will also want to pick up some third hand devices to firmly hold the items in place while you try to solder them.
