This video shows a walk through of the construction process, and a bit of showing it off of a portable Wii that's been soft and hard modded into a handheld system that boots to a custom interface that houses everything listed in the title and more. It involves software and hardware designing for it to become real and playable, so the video is FULL of information on how it's made, the steps I took, showing the system off, credited sources of help, and some funny tid bits to express my personality and how it would be like if I was on Ben Heck's Show. I focused on a bunch of aspects like play-ability (the controls, cause what's a portable if you can't play it?) It houses 4 controllers that can be switched for playing; and they are all for playing games the best way for the user. Another focus is the interface for a diverse library, making it easy to use, quick game booting, and all around stylish and completely beautiful art, icons, and originally composed music. The main idea of this system is an ALL in 1 that can not only run vast amounts of games from various systems, but you can PLAY them (hence the focus on mastering controls). I tried to cover everything I could in 18 minutes, Enjoy, Please like and share! and for more photos of the system and other info, check out this page with my audition video as well! Hack Like Heck: MilLs Dj

"I wish to apologize for this negativity related to amount of appropriate credit given to sources for this project. There is no intention of claiming ideas that were not mine. Since this is my first portable Wii and it was a very new build for me, any phrases like "I found out" are suppose to be taken as "I learned". There are infinite amounts of ways to see things as discredited, after all, we are all modifying and making adaptions of existing technology (aka Team Twiizers made HomeBrew for the Wii, which is a Nintendo game system, and Nintendo didn't invent Videogames, Ralph Henry Baer did). Please, comment appropriately, and if there is nothing nice to say, don't say it. I'd rather see no posts than negative ones toward anyone. Thank you."

This is my 1st of many portable Wii's.

Music and Media is found on page 3 and a software user manual is found on page 4!

(I know, if you add up the numbers it doesn’t equal 100,000. But there are minigames inside games, hacked versions of games made by fans and other groups, and Media is infinitely changing. Its more of an abstract thought to say 100,000 videogames becasue there is no definite number, but it is the closest amount I can relate to in the WiiSearch process)

So basically, I'm sorry I got called out.. and what I did was the same as everyone else anyway, depending on how you look at it. Hmm.. curious indeed.

Hi. I'm going through all of the entries slowly now... this one stood out before I even read the existing comments here, but not for good reasons I'm afraid.

Ignoring the comments about accused plagiarism for a moment (basically because I have no clue how any original authors licensed their content in the first place and am not looking into it)... also not even bothered if you have a lot of family members with the same name (I'd leverage my personal networks to get votes as well if I managed to complete a video).

Did you build this during the same time period that the rest of the contestants had though?

Forgive me, but it looks a heck of a lot like this is mostly an older build, or an existing unfinished build that was nearly done. It appears that you had existing progress photos that overlaid with a more recent webcam recording, and possibly some recent final assembly footage.

Even if it is based of another person(s) design, I'd be impressed if you had it built in the same 2 week period as other. But the video shown just doesn't add up.

There is a lot of footage of the finished project, and the stages near the end of the process (for example, note there is no progress screencasts of the designing - just rotating around the final design). Particularly telling is where you have PCB's of Wii's lined up and your finished project in the background...

This possibly isn't against the T&C's of the contest if what I am suggesting turns out to be the case, but it certainly seems against the spirit of the contest. It would also be quite insulting to the other contestants who went out of their way to develop something creatively original within a given time frame.

It would also have been much more interesting to have seen how you performed under the same constraints Heckendorn has for a lengthy period of time now if you are serious about attempting to carry on his legacy.

That wasn't even an apology ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's a shame to see someone who has used the works of others just to make money continue to do so and even win a contest off of the backs of others...

Vote skewing is a gross practice but I guess that's expected when "sharing" on social media counts as votes, especially when you can just share the same post to random facebook pages in order to accrue more votes...

Anyways, overall the entire contest has been a disappointment in my eyes. No advertising aside from the initial video on TBHS and the latest post a day before voting closed (only to find out voting was extended by 2 days.) Had the intended audience of the contest (the viewers of TBHS) actually known about voting before the day it closed I think the votes would look much different.

I'd say good luck to the contestants but it's obvious who is going to win based on the surge of 40+ votes in the last 48 hours...

Anyways that's the last I'll say on the subject although I must admit I'll be interested to see the final results tomorrow.

element14 is a community for engineers.  We love engineers.  All kinds. Engineers are smart and sometimes quick-witted and very, very literal.  And sometimes that makes for a firestorm.

While I love following passionate discussions on the community, I could do without the one currently going on in this thread.  Knock it off already with the slander and the libel and the plagiarism – enough.

Andrew has asked us to insert new text in the above DOC - ICYMI:

"I wish to apologize for this negativity related to amount of appropriate credit given to sources for this project. There is no intention of claiming ideas that were not mine. Since this is my first portable Wii and it was a very new build for me, any phrases like "I found out" are suppose to be taken as "I learned". Please, comment appropriately, and if there is nothing nice to say, don't say it. I'd rather see no posts than negative ones toward anyone. Thank you."

shank –accept the apology on behalf of everyone aggrieved so we can all move on.

I think (hope) the lesson has been learned.  Every engineer stands on the shoulders of those who have come before him/her.  It's always good manners to say thank you.

You are accusing me of slander. An essential part of the definition of slander is that the statement is false. If proof is given that a statement is true, it's not slander, it's just the truth.

There is a big difference between copyright infringement and plagiarism. Plagiarism is not (always) illegal, it's just a douchey thing to do. I could claim I wrote a poem that's been in public domain for decades, and there is nothing illegal about it. If I were to enter that poem in a poetry contest, that would be legal, but unethical. The definition you stated is passing off another's work or idea as your own. This isn't a witch hunt. He has paraphrased the information, and even used the same terminology/nicknames that we came up with.

There is no reasonable doubt he viewed our guides. He cited one of them, and drew a 1:1 MS paint version of one of my diagrams from one of my guides in his video. He even included the U9, an UNUSED CHIP I included in my guide with a nickname we came up with. Its used on the 3.3v standby line, which is merged with the 3.3v line in our guides, so it isn't needed. I included it in the guide because I analyzed it with my o'scope and it is programmed to behave exactly like the U10, and can be used in its place should you damage your U10. Did he figure that out on his own and include it in his diagram too? Probably not, given that he stated he didn't understand what it was even for. He cited BitBuilt here. So we know beyond reasonable doubt he viewed and used the guides in his project.

Now that we have the "He didn't see it and came up with it on his own" argument out of the way, lets give an example. He recites and paraphrases my board revision identification guide almost perfectly, including the same order of information, he uses our part nicknames and terminology, and specifically states it as something he noticed and came up with on his own. "I just keep seeing this pattern." No he didn't. He read this diagram found in this guide back when he started his project. His intent is to make people think he came up with this on his own. That is, by the very definitions you linked, plagiarism.

My work is just the tip of the uncredited iceberg. Another example of an uncredited source here is JacksonS. All of his wiimote trimming and revision information was sent to him by JacksonS. His multi-controller setup using transistor arrays to activate all the buttons without them interfering with each other? Courtesy of JacksonS. Touch screen interface he planned to use but couldn't figure out? TouchMii by JacksonS.  Not a mention of JacksonS anywhere in his video.

Er no - you need intent. You were quick to allege plagiarism based on a "visceral feeling", and join the bandwagon of people making serious accusations against an individual. In this thread we've had daftness only just short of "drown him he's a witch". I'm guessing next people will try to build a case as if this were the grassy knoll..

Maybe you should double-check the meaning of words before you state something as serious as plagiarism.

    And:

    And Oxford English dictionary:

    and Cambridge English dictionary:

All of them have the element of intent. You can't 'pretend' and pass off without intent. And by the way theft has the element of intent too - can't be bothered to cut/paste any more.
