This video shows a walk through of the construction process, and a bit of showing it off of a portable Wii that's been soft and hard modded into a handheld system that boots to a custom interface that houses everything listed in the title and more. It involves software and hardware designing for it to become real and playable, so the video is FULL of information on how it's made, the steps I took, showing the system off, credited sources of help, and some funny tid bits to express my personality and how it would be like if I was on Ben Heck's Show. I focused on a bunch of aspects like play-ability (the controls, cause what's a portable if you can't play it?) It houses 4 controllers that can be switched for playing; and they are all for playing games the best way for the user. Another focus is the interface for a diverse library, making it easy to use, quick game booting, and all around stylish and completely beautiful art, icons, and originally composed music. The main idea of this system is an ALL in 1 that can not only run vast amounts of games from various systems, but you can PLAY them (hence the focus on mastering controls). I tried to cover everything I could in 18 minutes, Enjoy, Please like and share! and for more photos of the system and other info, check out this page with my audition video as well! Hack Like Heck: MilLs Dj

"I wish to apologize for this negativity related to amount of appropriate credit given to sources for this project. There is no intention of claiming ideas that were not mine. Since this is my first portable Wii and it was a very new build for me, any phrases like "I found out" are suppose to be taken as "I learned". There are infinite amounts of ways to see things as discredited, after all, we are all modifying and making adaptions of existing technology (aka Team Twiizers made HomeBrew for the Wii, which is a Nintendo game system, and Nintendo didn't invent Videogames, Ralph Henry Baer did). Please, comment appropriately, and if there is nothing nice to say, don't say it. I'd rather see no posts than negative ones toward anyone. Thank you."

This is my 1st of many portable Wii's.

Music and Media is found on page 3 and a software user manual is found on page 4!

(I know, if you add up the numbers it doesn’t equal 100,000. But there are minigames inside games, hacked versions of games made by fans and other groups, and Media is infinitely changing. Its more of an abstract thought to say 100,000 videogames becasue there is no definite number, but it is the closest amount I can relate to in the WiiSearch process)

Thank you Element 14 community, I am new to this site and I would love your vote to carry on the legacy. With builds like such, I know I’d keep it more than interesting! (psst... Ben...it plays a ton of atari generations too... )

Hello millsdj I go by the online alias of "Shank" and as you probably know, I played a major role in Portablizing the Wii. For 3 years, I spent thousands of hours working on properly reverse engineering…

Just pointing out this is the same Shank from my video(yes, the goofy looking guy strapped to a mattress at MGC.) He's absolutely the key contributing factor behind the greatness of Wii portablizing, and…

Everyone builds on the work of others, and the video did seem to reference a lot of links and people (e.g. a user called 'abs' etc).

No-one likes doing work that gets ripped off and passed as ones own, and one should be careful with the language used, but I can see that it could be very possible to say things like "I discovered 4-layer boards used less power" and actually mean "I discovered from reading some web links that 4-layer boards use less power" or "I discovered from a friend who discovered from another friend who discovered it from a web link".

Also, a discovery isn't an invention, anyone could discover the 4-layer version uses less power, by connecting a multimeter and rotating to the Amps position. Might I also add, that it is actually extremely obvious that a second revision board may have less layers, or consume less power. This really isn't theft or plagiarism, such words should not be used lightly.

It it impossible to credit everything down to first principles, everyone stands on the shoulders of others.

Sharp, RCA and others worked hard on developing and producing LCD screens, and often we do not credit them when we stick an LCD into a project (and maybe even morally we do not need to in that particular scenario - anyone curious can easily google and find the source of who invented it) - same with Bell labs, Fairchild and others each time we use a microchip - eventually some ways of doing things become ubiquitous if whoever originally did something ends up making it the established method for many others. That's not to diminish the effort of those who took the time to establish and pioneer the methods of course.

No. Their Money ..protection. That is what you have yet to establish as a fact, and it seems to me as a bystander , like an coincidently inappropriate forum/time to make sweeping allegations!

Maybe you should go ahead and have a formal conversation privately, establish common understandings/rules and resolve the situation not to infringe/damage/stagnate either community creativity moving forward! If you want to ping me into the conversation, no bother , I could offer an impartial viewpoint with minimal bias as possible as I'm very new to these forums myself anyway, so I don't have any 'horses in the race' as such!

Hey Dave. First off, I love your portable. Your dry humor gave me a few good laughs. Yours is for sure in my top 5 of this contest.

The primary ModRetro thread linked was one from years ago at the very beginning of development, where the first goal was to gather information before attempting to work on new information. I cited it as it was the first example of publicly stating that correlation. If you are interested in digging into the research and work we did on the systems themselves once we gathered all that was readily available, here are a few threads to read through.

Super Thread - My public notes and information dump

Wiisearch and Development - Where we shared discoveries and tests

Compendium - Hundreds of hours of coloring traces and vias by hand to fully map the console. Large document. R.I.P. RAM

The Definitive Wii Trimming Guide - The crown gem of BitBuilt.

If you have any questions, or want to go even deeper into Wii's portablizing development history, let me know, and Ill do what I can to help image

So basically what you're saying is that if something is on the internet it must be public domain then, right? Why do you think YouTube is so strict when it comes to copyright protection? It's the same basic principal; you shouldn't make money off of someone else's work without their permission which is what Andrew Miller has been doing for years.

'copy others' across the span of the internet is about as vague and ye, childish as you could get! Get the YouTube timestamped links/ archive timestamp of the specifically compared footage/content & the transcript and log it, if you are so convinced! It's probably just a reasonable reference or coincidental procedure , I can't imagine there are that many variations anyway to achieve the same outcome! It's bizarre that this is all on top of hacking the propriety Wii system? anyway, isn't the goal to teach others the procedure, why is it public?

Is this all a bitbuild promo farce or something?

If you don't want to impact the competition it's too late, Andrew Miller already did when he plagiarized and stole content.

If the competition, as you say, is about achieving a skill level, then perhaps the best way to do that is to not copy others work and claim it as your own?

The competition is about achieving a skill level and completing the build & video presentation of the build, I'm not that interested in your career path or opinions, thanks. ;P You should take the matter privately and not impact the competition yourself further! I'm sure it's a minor misunderstanding and comes from a promotional perspective to win the competition, like a slightly exaggerated CV!

You didn't enter the competition! So unless this effects you directly your establishing your own bias and trying to impact the voting system yourself!

You should take the matter privately!

I'm sure it's just semantics , the  pride & excitement of achieving the build at a micro level verses claiming some pure microcosm of abstract originality on the Internet [using any commonsense, is a given and implicitly insane anyway, especially to presume or project your opinions to be absolute fact!] !

We knew BitBuilt was credited, but several large chunks of information that he discussed throughout the video, such as the different board revisions, were ripped directly from the site with no credit. You could say "well he credited the site minutes before so why does it matter?" and it's the verbiage he uses that shows his intent; "All of the black Wiis I've found so far are 4-layers" and "I just keep seeing this pattern with the type of systems when it comes to color." He's clearly implying here that he was the one to discover this correlation, when in fact, it had been discovered literally years before now, by Shank.
