Why You Need a Raspberry Pi Pico Development Board by Shabaz - Workbench Wednesdays 70

Development boards for microcontrollers speed up prototyping. They collect all of the bits you normally need into a single place. The Pico Eurocard was designed by element14 Community member shabaz–and it is awesome! James walks through the major features, talks about what he likes, and shows why you want to use one.

Hi James, Fantastic work, thank you for explaining how all the features operate! Thanks for all your work on this, and to element14 for making it happen! I'm now highly motivated to work on a version…

This query pops up most of the e14 articles for the Eurocard: /tags/pico_5F00_eurocard

Hah. Look at what I found in my mailbox today.

The 3.3 volt regulators I ordered (after shooting the video) for the Eurocard!

    Yay!

    Hi James,

Fantastic work, thank you for explaining how all the features operate! Thanks for all your work on this, and to element14 for making it happen!

I'm now highly motivated to work on a version 2.3 (or maybe it is time for version 3.0) of it.

Just some extra links for anyone who wants to make it, the PicoProbe firmware specially built for the Xiao board is a downloadable binary from here, courtesy of Jan Cumps : https://github.com/jancumps/picoprobe/releases and it is described at Jan's blog post: Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040 as DebugProbe

There is a Windows version of OpenOCD built too (for anyone who doesn't want to build from scratch) here: https://github.com/shabaz123/rp2040tools, however, maybe it is not needed with the latest RaspberryPi C/C++ SDK installer, I have not checked. Anyway, the pre-built version is there for anyone who needs it.

The footprint for the microSD socket (for anyone who wishes to solder that onto the board) can accommodate several different sockets from different manufacturers, albeit a dab of epoxy glue might be required since all the different manufacturer versions have slight variances. The mounting pads are quite wide to try to accommodate those variations, but the glue helps for some of the variations. I'll find a product code for one that is most compatible, and post it here at some point.

Also although the Gerber files are uploaded, the KiCad source files need uploading, I'll do that very soon (need to open in KiCad V7, and tidy the schematic! All the prototype area pads are also symbols on the schematic, and portions of the schematic are currently outside the boundaries of the drawing frame..
