Why Haven't You Signed Up for an element14 Webinar Lately?

For most I sign up hoping to attend but in honesty 45 minutes or an hour can be a lot of time. This is why I asked for the youtube format of posting so an hour webinar could be watched in 30 - 45 minutes. I find a decent number of presenters speak slowly and watching at x2 is more of a conversational speed that I can follow. Also if I need to review on small part slower I can easily do so.

This is not to say I don't enjoy the information just that in a youtube format scheduling is greatly simplified, and time needed to watch it is reduced.

Your viewing stats for the on demand versions of the video should give some indication of this. e.g. if your live viewing figures are low, but your on demand viewing figures are high, then it suggests that there is still interest in the topic but that people want to choose a time when to watch it rather than being tied to a specific time slot which may or may not be convenient depending on time zones.

There is a significant shift to on-demand viewing these days, with fewer reasons to do things live. Live tends to be reserved for three main areas 1) where user interaction with the presenter is necessary  (including Q&A, polling, etc. 2) where information needs to be given out at the same time to a group of people - big announcement from the company CEO  3) where you need to use the likes of multicast in order to conserve network bandwidth. In most other cases then on-demand is usually preferred and often gives a) a higher quality end product as problems can be resolved before the content is published to the viewer, and b) more control as the viewer can skip over section and rewind, or pause as required (to take that important phone call).

I sign up for those webinars that I find interesting.

Some I view after they are posted.

Most of the webinars are very informative, so I enjoy them.

You make some really good points.

I think there were a number of rocky sessions. Hopefully those problems have decreased lately. I've spent more time prepping the presenters on audio issues. Thanks for the feedback.

I am new to the Element 14 community and was not aware of the webinars. Heading over now to see what is available. Live streams are okay but a recorded video allows the viewer to watch when convenient. With so many members living in different timezones, this can make it difficult for some people to catch the live stream of the video.

I subscribe to each one that is in my interest sphere or that I think will learn me something new.

The less a session is related to a particular supplier or product, the more I like it. That's typically not the case here though. most seminars are a (blatant) product plug by the supplier.

Even then, I've had much value from most that I attended, when the presenter went off-script and gave insight you don't find easily in the documentation.

I have a quality rant too

Often the first 7 minutes of a session are messy because someone in the organising team doesn't know how to use the presentation system or the audio doesn't work.
Tip for the e14 organiser and presenter: Please both log in half an hour early and have everything working when the attendants arrive. Or train with a mock audience  the day before. It doesn't come over professionally when you're trying to get it working with part of the audience already dialed in.

Second rant - for some events it's not easy to find the 'join' link, or it's posted after people start panicking.

For me, a recording has about the same value as a live stream. Advantage of a live stream is the ability to ask (/ hear answers to) interesting questions online. However, in case of a deeper interest, you can always ask later by contacting the person / company directly. The biggest advantage of a recording is obviously timing - you can play it anywhere, anytime, pause how often you need, get back to something you haven't understood, ...

Quite a lot of webinars are related to RoadTest products, which is great for people interested in (or performing) a road test. However, I don't feel competent in doing a proper test, which is why I don't sign up for them and have a little interest in such webinars. More general topics would be appreciated, covering more than one specific component / product.

Generally, the Know Your Customer concept is applicable here. There are many groups of people here on e14, with different roles, positions, priorities, hobbies... For example students, makers and engineers are different target groups with different needs.

Not sure if pattern or not, but it looks like only TMs replied so far. Perhaps many users are not subscribed to Webinars, Training and Events  notifications?

I'd like to thank everyone who participated or commented on this poll.

I'm trying to make some adjustments so we are offering webinars that appeal to the community.

Clearly, the time is an issue as well. So, I'll have to address that too.
