Favourite technological word

Workshopshed
Workshopshed over 10 years ago

jack.chaney56 mentioned that his favourite word was "Just" as in, "it just works" which often hides a massive amount of work done by others to make it happen for you.

My favourite is "Simply" which comes up in our requirements statements. e.g. "It simply needs to guide the rocket and land on the asteroid". We find it used most when the person writing the request has no idea at all about what needs to be done.

    Did I hear KISS?

e14 shows us everything they've got

We keep on logging in and our enthusiasm gets hot

We drive e14 wild, e14 will drive us crazy

You say you wanna road test now

The party's just begun, we'll let you in

We drive e14 wild, e14 will drive us crazy

We'll keep on testing and we'll keep on shouting

I wanna my e14 all night and party every day

I wanna my e14 all night and party every day

I wanna my e14 all night and party every day

I've had this one backfire on me a few times, where the person took it as an insult, they only saw the 'stupid' part.

When boss/customer comes to me ad tries to make me build a Space Shuttle, I delete 99% of the specs using my favourite Extreme Programming principle:

    YANGTNI

"You are not going to need it"

I like all the "management speak" words that lead you to think they don't have a clue about the work involved. Good for them too, because their focus is on the schedule, and it doesn't matter that something is physically impossible. It's what they promised, and you don't want them to look bad.

I like the story of the self employed guy, that thought his supervisor was an idiot image

    How about 'only' ?

"It only needs to do this"

Combine it with the other words for a super word bonus!

"It only just needs to do this, basically!"
