What have you discovered that has improved your user experience at the new E14 Community site?

I have been feeling disconnected from the E14Community since the move to the new site. The majority of the feelings came from actually not being able to communicate after the move. I could receive but not transmit. Making or responding to posts wasn’t possible. Rather frustrating to read stuff and no be able to respond. After being shown a work around that enabled my transmit, the communication part has been solved.

The disconnect feeling remains because things have moved and I can't find what was once familiar to me. I will continue to struggle until I can reconnect with the sources of information I had on the old site. Here are some touch points I have been using to help recover from my disconnect.

In the past I ignored the the landing page and clicked on CONTENT All. From that site pulse point, I got a reasonable picture of changes in the environment. The CONTENT All doesn’t exist on the new site.

My lesson 101 to reconnect is to invest in the Landing page. I turn over the tabs of Recent Content section in the lower part of the Landing Page. The posts under these tabs are suppose to reflect some of the site content as it is updated. There are some issues with this being updated but tech support is aware and working on it. Since RoadTest are important to me, I also explore what is under the RoadTests button from the landing page.

My third location for content culling is the Member Area. From the landing page it is easy to navigate to the location.

I pursue the Recent Discussions section for details.

That is three touch points I am investing in to re-establish my connection. If you have discovered something on the new site that has helped reconnect, I encourage you to share. The faster we can discover what works, the faster our community returns.

I chuckled after reading your comments. I have had a similar experience when trying to hunt down content I think I have seen but maybe it was my imagination.

Even this post I am unable to find in MyContent now. Well, that is not true I can stumble across it after what seems to be a long search. I'm still grieving for the old All Content selection.

The ‘content’ button on the left of the nav bar was the best feature of the old site.  Select that and ‘blogs’ and see all blog posts (not comments) in date modified order.  Then click on that button and ‘discussions’ and see all discussions (not comments) in date modified order.  And so on for all content types.

date modified was set as date created OR date modified by the author OR date of last comment.

Now we have to spot new content within the first 10 entries on the home page (or 20 on Sitemap page) before it disappears into the noise.  I wanted to post a link to a specific discussion that was active in comments.  It didn’t appear in the first 10 entries so I tried page 2, page 3, page 4 and gave up.  That was an active discussion with the latest comment a small number of hours previously (3 I think).  I did find it as entry 13 Sitemap page.

even though this discussion is reasonably active, it isn’t to be found in recent activity and hasn’t appeared there for a long time.  I’d forgotten all about it and came across it again by chance.

The equivalent to that content button is what the new site desperately misses.  A good alternative would be to put a show/hide comments in the results filter.

Great news. I happen to stumble across David Edwards, The Electronics Inside 50: Apple Macintosh SE/30 Teardown when an image appeared on the main page. I had to join the group to view. I then thought about how much more content have I missed. I'm not confident joining the ten or so groups I located will indicate new content but I will keep trying ideas to see what works.

Maybe the forum software already has a good location for it.
If not, here is where this type of info was available before (orange annotations in right upper corner)

The envelope was what the two icons left of the avator are now.
The Activity link is what used to show all activity on the forum, sorted by age, newest first.

I'm also working with the development team and top members on a 'recent activity view' and where that should live on the site.

The intervention by the moderator to move the post to a more appropriate forum highlighted how disconnected I am from the new site. I'm not familiar with the technology but I get the impression Groups has some significance. I have asked questions about establishing a group's list before being called to join. I'm trying a preemptive strike of joining some Groups to see if I get more feedback on the activity in the community.

Using the blue bar listing Member, Learn, Technologies, Challenges & Projects and Products, I joined some groups. In the example I went to the Challenges & Projects list and selected Raspberry Pi Projects, the screen to join (notice at the bottom) appeared. I completed the join request.

I've gone from having a listing of two groups to about ten now. Subjects I had a past interest in I now selected that Group. I'm hoping this will generate some more activity under my lighting bolt.

I've been manually scraping pages to discover the content I would have typically viewed on the old site. I'm hoping this eliminates the manual exercise.

Can I take it back? I have joined a bunch of groups but have since discovered many more. It might take an hour or two to go through them all and join the ones that look to be of possible interest. If you click on the headings in the blue bar above, most of them have a "More" selection in the dropdown list that brings up a whole list of possible groups. I don't feel it is ideal to have to join a group where I might or might not want to make one comment in the next decade.

I just read your repose to the setting change. You indicated you have joined the groups necessary. I recall asking the question of how to perform a mass join but it wasn't encouraged.

My communication is way down since the move. I can speculate on the cause. I'm hoping it is not a result of me being disconnected.

What approach did you use to get your groups in order?

My apologies for not responding. As the individual that posted this message, it is only fair you get a response. In defence of my tardiness, I hadn't received notification there was a post. Let's be honest, maybe it came and I didn't recongnize it or at least I don't recall getting anything. That being said....

Thank you for the response. I appreciate not only acknowledging the issues but receiving some insight into what is happening behind the scences. Cstanton has been the face for me for most of your teams efforts. He receives the lions share of my abuse. I can't fault the individual, he is doing a great job working to help resolve the issues. I've been provided some work arounds to gets some consistency and that has enabled me to reconnnect.

I confess I am not a person that accepts change without some raised hackles. Especially if the change is not something I felt was needed. I accept the site had to be moved. The move has changed the level of member interaction or at least it feels like it. That sense of community was important to me. Re-establishing that has been a challenge in the new site.
