Extending Printrbot Simple's build platform...

This has been tricky, simple for the z extension. I replaced the rods and screw shaft with larger ones. It extended my z from 100mm to 250mm. But I had to go into G-code and change the maximums there to get it to recognize the extra size. Now I'm printing larger shaft holders for the x increase. I will replace the bed once the dimensions. Then with an increased z and x I will start the y.

Printrboard box top completed 3 hours and 3 minutes.

Not easy! Plus I ran into my sensor not working due to being a metal detecting sensor, so I have to add metal tape lol

If I need a larger make base I might do this as well.
For now I will just try things with what I have.

I do like you idea though. There is no reason why you cannot adapt your 3D printer into different ways to customize it to your needs.

Yeah, getting the sensor to pick up was a choir, I had to put down metal tape and then my blue tape to get it to stick, but the plus side is my plate cost $3 and some time instead of $60-100 for a solid aluminum one this size is 12" x 8" and next i will work on the z and y to get it to 12 x 12 x 12

Old print size with new size, the z was the easyiest to up grade, I actually printed the pipe up right, new size is 90mm x 115mm x 300mm and wow hahaha
