Hello Community members! As some of you know, we are celebrating the Community's 10th Birthday this year.  In our excitement, we thought a lot about what we wanted to do for our 10th birthday and came up with a variety of activities from the absolutely ridiculous (renting a bouncy castle, RasPi piñatas, partying on a private island) to the less ridiculous (team dinner and cake woowoo!) but once we found out our birthday would be coinciding with the release of the new Raspberry Pi 4, we knew we had to celebrate our birthday with Pi, not cake! (Please insert loud vuvuzela sounds here.)

As many of you have probably already seen over in the Raspberry Pi space, there's been a flurry of activity surrounding this latest release. Many retailers have either completely sold out or have all versions on back-order. Luckily, we managed to snag some of the elusive new Pi's in order to entice you all to help us continue celebrating our birthday through the summer by building some awesome projects.

So: what do you have to do to be in the running for one of the brand new Raspberry Pi 4's? Just follow the instructions below!

1. Register and/or log-in to the element14 Community

2. Leave a comment on this post telling us what you'd build with the new Pi 4 and its fun upgraded capabilities

After July 15th, we'll select up 20 members to receive a Pi!

Contest is now closed! Thanks so much to everyone who participated. We are in the process of reaching out to all our winners and will be shipping out your Pis the first week of August! Stay tuned for an update to this post where we will announce winners.

Want to be in the running for MORE cool stuff? For those of you who build said cool project(s) and post a blog along with photos and/or video in the Raspberry Pi space, tag your blog with HappyBirthdaye14 so we can all see your awesome work, appreciate it and continue the birthday celebrations by basking in the creativity of our Community members. If you do, we have some digital and/or physical "goodie bags" full of surprise swag and Newark/Farnell stuff we want to give away to you!

So, let us know in the comments below what fun projects you're looking forward to building and sharing!

And, if you haven't already checked out the plethora of posts surrounding the new Pi or the anniversary posts started by rscasny cstanton tariq.ahmad e14phil - check out the links below and participate. Some of them might even lead to more opportunities for cool stuff!

Isn't this contest over..? Well I'm trying anyway!

I wanna build a media center pc to replace my aging/dying NUC. considering Intel NUC's are way too pricey now, this rpi with a USB 3 disk will do quite nicely, as soon as they fix the HDR. image

When I will win that raspberry pi 4, I will build an RPI Switch. It will be an retrogaming Console that looks like the Nintendo Switch, and even will have the same size. It will be a great project for me to build. The RPI 4 is perfect for that. It has the right performance and hardware to build that gaming Console. I even have already almost all parts at home. Only the pi and the screen are missing.

I want to use Pi 4 for developing a system to warn/prevent road accidents on highways and expressways. It will check parameters like vehicle speed, vehicle breakdown, driving pattern (criminal, drunken, sleeping or ill driver) and alert safety personnel in time to take action via wireless Ethernet or GSM network. The system will also activate appropriate warning signals on the road for safety of other approaching drivers.

Availability of variety of interfaces for sensors and implementation of AI algorithms will be ideal combination to get useful output in complex situations.

The system will be powered by solar panels with battery backup. Low power consumption feature of Pi 4 will enable efficient battery operation during cloudy weather or nights.

What I find great for a raspberry pi is that I have a Bad Dudes My Arcade mini converting to a MAME My Arcade as that option. This I try to explain because my Bad Dudes mini arcade only has 2 fire buttons and a joystick. The MAME arcade games involving one and two fire buttons, such as Phoenix, Super Pac Man and City Connection are examples. Now I have seen other YouTube videos as simular I explain. I am giving this my best shot when I send you my Bad Dudes My Arcade mini for this kind of option.

I would like to try the RPi 4 as an all around property GURU! By this i mean that I would have it mounted on a robotic structure controlled by the RPi 4, with a camera module, so it could move around my property both as a security tool and be adaptable for mounting probes to check soil Ph level at every major plant on the property (trees, bushes, garden plants, etc.), check Ph levels at possible planting sites, and as well as checking soil water and fertilizer content to see if any individual plants need watering and fertilizer. It would have a built in graph of when items were planted and what the expected date of harvest would be and technological software to ascertain whether the items were ready to harvest. Connected to a Wi-Fi scale it could tally all of the weights of produce pulled from the garden and possibly summarize what would make a better planting order by plots. I would also expect it to check the entrance to my beehive and the bees water source on a daily basis and report on extraordinary activity at the hive entrance (possible swarming) and the level of the water.

The RPi 4 would also connect internal wireless cameras in structures and respond/report to any security problems, actuating cameras if necessary,  as well as reporting on non-functioning cameras, along with transferring and storing all clips and videos to the RPi 4 Server Version in my office.

It would also feed data from Weather Reports through Wi-Fi and feed the weather package information into the Server Version of a RPi 4 to display all of the information collected in organized folders of information that could be displayed at the touch of a Screen/Folder to show contents of the data in structured formats.

My project being total rasp pi newbie would find a way to start some radio astrology. Being a licenced Amateur Radio Operator (M6ODC) I have a keen fascination with the sky and the stars and would love to incorparate it somehow to expand my knowledge and share the info via a blog. I also wonder if it would be possible to incorparate an image searcher that can take in a picture of the stars at a set date /time/location and then take an image of the exact same coordinates years later to see what had changed.

I don't have any good project, but I would compile the most appealing and easy ones, get all the needed parts and give the whole to my 8 years old grandson to get him started in the "good life habits"

I was going to order a Pi4 on the Monday it was first available. But since Newark.com's website was not working I could not order one. I just saw this email from yesterday, but when I got here it turns out yesterday was the last day to leave a comment to be eligible to win. Bummer. But on the bright side, the Pi4 has a defective non-complaint USB-C port. So it all worked out, I'll just wait for the revised version that fixes that problem before going in for one.

When I get one, It will go into my home made tablet. I already laser cut and assembled all the parts including a nice multi-touch LCD. Looks like all I need to do is re-laser one side panel due to the new connectors and I'm good to go with a Pi4 in my tablet. Hopefully the USB-C problem gets fixed quickly. You might also want to give people a little more notice than the same day that a promotion ends!
