My first if i remember right was a 40$ commercial electric Digital Multimeter i didn't really have a specific reason getting it at the time other than i always wanted one and i liked fiddling with electricity AC or DC. I used it on residential electrical quite a bit and little repair jobs here and there like game consoles and radios (its experienced the best and worst of my abilities XD). Then when i got into full on repair it was my main meter for probably 7 years until a trace in the dial sepperated from the board (from previous over voltage and wear). So it got replaced with a newer commercial electric still using its probes though.

When I started with electronics I was probably only 14 or 15 and managed for several years without any fancy test equipment at all but Uni-T DT-830B . I had one thing to start at least as of finding faults.

This was my first measurement tool. I was in 12th standard and I bought it with my hard-earned money. I was so excited about it. Did a lost of testing but only lasted for a year. Great deal for me at that time. I wouldn't say i have outgrown this very much because I am still using cheap multimeters. I would love to buy bigger ones as i need it for testing. I have a 'To-Buy' list of equipment and I am trying to cross the names in it one by one .

When I was about 17 I was given an old multimeter that barely worked. I opened it up and spent hours trying to figure out what was happening inside and what might be causing the issues. I eventually re-soldered everything I could get to and it worked well for years!

Now, this is something amazing!!! I have used oscilloscopes and functions generators in my college lab. But this one seems to be 'The Godfather' of all of them! It looks like some kind of vintage device to contact aliens...

My first T&M tool was a Digital Multimeter!
As a young engineering student the first tool for me obviously was a multimeter like the one in the picture. Our teacher used to explain all the functions it has on it.
There is saparate AC and DC functions on this meter. We also did something with NPN and PNP transistors to measure their registence.
Yes, it is still with me. I remember that we got a list from the university to buy a basic kit for T&M tools.

My first test/measurement was a handheld digital multimeter. I bought it around 2001/2002 for the purpose of testing car batteries and the output from the alternator. I still have it and have no intention to replace it. It has been a faithful piece of kit.

That looks like a great scope. I once had access to one that had a 3 1/2 inch floppy disk drive but it was so complicated that I rarely used it.
