Why don't you go for the official kit?

If you have a particular feeling to certain kind of projects you can explain us so we can help you suggesting some possible direction. Good also if you tell us your average budget.

I really like Oomlout's tutorial as a starting point: ARDX – Arduino Expermentation Kit « .:oomlout:.

I don't see it on the e14 stores, but the kit is available in various places, including Adafruit: https://www.adafruit.com/product/170

If you are on a budget, Oomlout, being open-source, does list all the required pieces so you could go to eBay or Aliexpress and buy it all separately and wait for the delivery time, or buy it all on e14 / Farnell for much quicker turnaround time.

    Cheers,

    -Nico

I found this guys videos very helpful with learning Arduino, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfYfK0tzHZTpNFrc_NDKfTA

His name is Paul McWhorter and he has an Arduino lesson plan posted on YouTube.  He does a great job of explaining every aspect from wiring up circuits to writing code.

The kits that are posted above are great to start with. I personally started with this kit from Banggood, https://www.banggood.com/UNO-Basic-Starter-Learning-Kit-Upgrade-Version-For-Arduino-p-970714.html?rmmds=search , and have used nearly every item included so far with great success.

    Happy experimenting,

    DJ

fritzing.org/     Here is a very cheap kit, but has many choices on projects. It also has a IR sensor and remote, and every thing to get you started.https://www.amazon.com/Elegoo-Project-Starter-Tutorial-Arduino/dp/B01D8KOZF4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493864977&sr=8-2-sp…

If you are interested in robotics here is a beginner chassis, and all the parts to build the robot.https://www.amazon.com/Elegoo-Ultrasonic-Bluetooth-Intelligent-Educational/dp/B01M2Z9ZTV/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=14938651…

If you are interested in robotics get both. When I got my first Arduino I didn't buy enough parts. Here is a good tutorial a remote control robot. ARDUINO Based IR Remote Control Robot : 4 Steps

My last note is, you can use a program called Fritzing.

    http://fritzing.org/

         Hope this is useful,

    Good shout on Fritzing! image

Started with that many years ago, and still turn to it for smaller jobs when Eagle is "having a moment".
