initial booting

We purchased a MMP with zynq 7z100.
Since we followed the simple instruction,
we found that the initial serial connection didn't work.
We used sd card-based booting with factory-installed linux image. Is there any known defect on instruction or linux image? And is there any useful information on it?

    Hello Adrian,

     

    A colleague of mine was able to get an MMP board and was able to verify the issue you observed with the QSPI Flash load. It looks like we have a problem with the pre-loaded QSPI image and will work on that. Thanks for alerting us to the problem.

     

    I am not sure exactly what you are seeing with the Out of Box SD Card image. If you push SW10 the LED brightness application should exit and return to the Linux prompt. You can download the Out of Box SD card image, along with documentation and directions on the LED Brightness demo application from the MMP Reference Designs /Tutorials page here:

    We also verified that the image available with the MMP compressed PetaLinux BSP, which you can also download from the same MMP Reference Designs page, works correctly. This image is more up to date than the Out of Box SD Card Linux image and you may want to start with that. The compressed BSP image you download is basically a zip file of a zip file, so use WinZip or similar program to extract twice.

    Hi,
    I pushed SW10 and all the other switches.  Still does not boot.
    I will try downloading the new image and give that a shot.

    Hi Gary,
    I need assistance.  My board does not boot.  Pressing SW10 does not get me around the Led dimmer issue.
    I would also like your email address and phone number to speed up the process.

    Hi,
    I tried the new image and it also hangs in the same spot.
    Pressing SW10 does not allow the image to boot.

    Hello Adrian,

     

    Once you power up your board and get the Linux prompt could you try entering "/opt/Avnet/led_dimmer.elf" and see if the LED brightness app works correctly?

    Hi Gary,

    Just unpacked a fresh spanking new Zynq MMC board.  I'm seeing the same symptom as Adrian.  After a "run sdboot" at the uboot prompt, Linux boot proceeds.  However, the last output is "led_brightness device class registered.", followed by a locked console.  No Linux prompt ever appears.

    Was there a resolution to this?

    Just wanted to document the solution.

    1.  

      The image shipped on the SD card doesn't quite work.  I downloaded "Zynq MMP 7Z100 Out-of-Box Linux PlanAhead 14.5"
         which was the corresponding zip file ZMMP_7100_OOB_Linux_PA14_5.zip. The relevant files are in the sd_card directory.

    2.  

      SW5 settings were documented incorrectly on some reference materials found on the web (which may have been fine for another version of the board.)  The ZMMP_OOB_Linux_Guide_v1.1.pdf bundled with the zip file showed correct SW5[1:5] settings of off, off, on, on, off.

    With the above, the uboot environment variable "modeboot" gets correctly configured to "sdboot" on reset.  Boot proceeds correctly to Linux root prompt.  Running /opt/Avenet/led_dimmer.elf works:
