Who wants a BeagleBone Black and BaconCape?

fustini

At The specified item was not found., jkridner lead a hands session with the Beagle Bone BlackBeagle Bone Black entitled Rapid Prototyping with Sensor/Actuator Breakout Boards using Bonescript:

The workshop showed how to interact with the BeagleBone and BaconCape using Bonescript (a Javascript library) by editing code live in the browser:

Here's a video of it in action:

The following day after all sessions were over, Jason kindly gave me a BeagleBone Black and BaconCape that was used in the workshop.  I already have a BeagleBone Black so I thought I would pass the favor along and give it for free it to a Community member:

Reply to this post with a short description of why you are interested (1 to 2 sentences is fine).  I'll then pick a winner at random on Thursday, May-9, at 7pm US CDT.

Note: I'm located in Chicago and will ship it for free to the winner using the lowest cost option available.  If the winner is located outside the US, then the winner will be responsible for paying any customs fees or duty that may apply.  I will list the value as $45USD (there is no price listed for the BaconCape, I think it was just made for the workshop). Also, these two board come as-is.  It was used during four 45-minute sessions at DESIGN West.  I have tested the basic operation of this unit, but I make no guarantee about its functionality.

Cheers,

Drew

I heard back that it's a fully functional unit. That label was just intended to eliminate confusion during the workshop. I also just tested that Ethernet and HDMI work ok on it.

I learned assembly on a pdp-11/23 in cheltenham. I won't say where, those in the know will know. I say assembly as I really learned machine code. We had to write our assembly out on a notepad, translate…

    I like the Bacon Cape!

What's with the "FOR USB USE ONLY" sticker?  Does this mean that the Ethernet port is broken on this unit?  Or you can't power it through the 5V barrel jack?

[I already have a BBone White, so don't enter me in the contest.]

I'd love to give it a try, no real projects in mind, just never played with a BeagleBone before.  And located a couple of hours north of Chicago :-)

    Hi Drew,

I've been learning robotics and planning on doing projects, was thinking of buying the Beaglebone board as the definite step towards that goal..

Would love to have this board, if I were the lucky pick image.  Think the board will help me get launched and get my hands dirty!!!

    regards

    Vinodh

Hi John, I'll find out and reply here with the answer, but it did power off the USB jack and iirc the Ethernet worked too.  It may have just been a warning/note so that folks would only connect it via mini-USB client port for the workshop (since that was all that was needed).

Drew you give away more than Santa!

No need to enter me in this one, but I am curious about the BaconCape, where can you get one of these?  Perhaps I am just bad with the site interface, but I couldn't find one on the E14/Newark site and want to buy through you guys if possible.  Thanks as always!

I would love to try them out. I've been really interested in picking up node.js and python and this would give me real incentive.

I'm not sure, I haven't seen them online anywhere either, like BeagleBoardToys or the CircuitCo wiki.  I think it may have just been made for the workshop.

What is odd Drew is that the initial boot via usb for a BBB ref the BaconCape and even gives code for it.  I too have been unable to find the cape for sale, but it is odd considering the rather explicit mention of it for new board boot-ups!

I have been hoping to get one, but as a student, it gets tough on what to purchase. I would like to use the beagle bone black as a webserver to control the philips hue led bulbs for a building automation project we are doing over summer
