No Serial Ports after Installing BB View

Well this WELL and TRULY sucks!  If I had know this I would not have ordered this product.  Funny that the HDMI seems to work just fine with (at least serial1) simultaneously.

Well you need to consider that the cape includes some other stuff like buttons and LED's, so it's the HDMI pins plus several others.  All it takes is a single thing to conflict and you're unable to use both.

As I said previously, if you don't use those buttons or LEDs you could remove them from the devicetree and use them for other things - at least as long as they don't conflict electrically with whatever you want to use them for. Even then, a few minutes with a soldering iron can fix that too!

Solder?  De-solder?  Reprogram?  God Almighty!

I don't even have it yet and already I don't want it!  Only ordered it yesterday via Amazon.  I shoulda known.

Its a cheap display which looks good when working if you don't want to desolder look at a usb serial dongle I got a two port one but they do go up to 4 and it will probably still be cheaper than the alternative display.

The BBB works with an HDMI tv/monitor but I was hoping for something I could tote around.  For local tinkering I'm just ssh'ing into it via local Ethernet and command line.  I wanted to try whatever windowing interface Debian has on it.

Ultimately, I will be using one serial port for the GPS, a USB dongle for wifi, and at least one of the I2C ports for 12 devices (engine temps, accel, gyro, and etc.), and an undetermined method (now that this screen won't work) to display my temps and stuff.

lol.. the screen works just fine, but it seems you failed to do any research into what pins it uses before you bought it..  Do your research. You'll find that it conflicts with some of the I2C pins as well.

Hopefully one good thing will come from this - you'll learn from your mistakes and not repeat them next time

I think you are being a little unfair, selsinork can't be held responsible for my or your actions, its a cheap display that is good, there are always downsides. The pdf specs were available on line so the after the fact style stuff is your lack of research. There are ways round the problem ie rebuild excluding the clashes from the device tree which is good advice.
