Arch linux ?

archlinuxarm.org has http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7/nitrogen6x which while technically for the boundary nitrogen6x board may just be able to boot on a Sabre-Lite.  I'll test it sometime in the next couple of days when my new microSD cards arrive and report the results.

  • So I tried the nitrogen6x arch build on Sabre-Lite and it does indeed boot and run. However it comes with roughly the same 3.0.15 kernel as the timesys pre-installed card which is rather buggy - various divide by zero errors during early kernel startup. It doesn't appear to be configured for HDMI output, serial console only, but the network works so this is less of a problem. The dmesg log buffer has been set too small meaning the log doesn't start until about 3s in so it's not so easy to tell what happened during boot, or if there were any actual problems.

     

    Only obvious problem is that 'pacman -Syu' fails with a conflict that I've not worked out how to get past yet.  Arch are doing some strange stuff with systemd and removing /lib and that all seems to be part of the problem.

     

    However a pre-packaged and relatively easy to install image is certainly a good starting point compared to most of the other offerings.

         I'm quite intereseted in Sabre-Lite running on Archlinux. I tried following the steps in the link that you posted. However, I am encountering an error whenever I tried to boot it up, it says "wrong image format for bootm command" and "error: can't get kernel image". I am quite sure that the tarball that I downloaded and extracted are the same.

         Did you encounter this problem? Can you also teach me how did you do it on your device?

    I'm not aware of having done anything special, I just created an ext3 fs on a micro-sd card and extracted the contents of the tar file onto it. As it says, you do really need to be root (and not using sudo) to do that as it contains /dev with device nodes which won't get re-created properly if you're not really root

     

    Other than that, I had the original factory version of uBoot installed, if you've upgraded yours then maybe that makes a difference ?
