Kit Overview
Pandaboard ESPandaboard ES is an OMAP4460 platform designed to provide access to as many of the powerful features of the OMAP4460 Multimedia Processor as possible, while maintaining a low cost. This will allow the user to develop software to utilize the features of the powerful OMAP4460 processor. In addition, by providing expandability via onboard connectors, the Pandaboard ESPandaboard ES supports development of additional capabilities/functionality.
The heart of Pandaboard ESPandaboard ES is the OMAP4460 processor. The OMAP4460 high-performance multimedia application device is based on enhanced OMAP architecture and uses 45-nm technology. The OMAP 4 processor balances processing across four main engines: a programmable multimedia engine based on TI’s C64x DSP and power-efficient, multi-format hardware accelerators; general-purpose processing based on the dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore supporting symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) and capable of speeds of more than 1 GHz per core; a high-performance programmable graphics engine; and an Image Signal Processor (ISP) for unparalleled video and imaging performance.
Primary persistent storage is via an SD Card slot allowing SDHC cards up to 32 GB to be used. The board includes wired 10/100 Ethernet as well as wireless Ethernet and Bluetooth connectivity. Its size is slightly larger than the ETX/XTX Computer form factor at 4 × 4.5 in (100 × 110 mm). The board can output video signals via DVI and HDMI interfaces. It also has 3.5 mm audio connectors. It has two USB host ports and one USB On-The-Go port, supporting USB 2.0. The Pandaboard ESPandaboard ES also has an integrated SGX540 graphics processor and provides 1080p HDMI output. PandaBoard ES is optimized to run various mobile open source software distributions such as Android, Ubuntu, MeeGo and more.
