Changing signal names to pads on board

After duplicating a circuit many times (12), I am working on cleaning up

the inconsistencies (thank you Ing. J.M. Rafetseder for your Dec 7th

post on circuit duplication!).

 

At this point, the inconsistencies that remain are board trace

related.  There are a few common bus signals that are connected in the

schematic, but no traces were routed from the board pads prior to

duplication. To make the schematic and board consistent, the board

signal needs to be renamed the same as the schematic, but I am unable to

click and highlight on the pad with NAME, as there are no air wires

coming from the pad.

 

How can the signal on the board pad, with no air wires or connected

trace be renamed?

 

The alternative is to ignore the inconsistencies, and the overlap board

errors when connecting the pad with the appropriate trace???

    i think you need to connect them in schematic to get the airwires first,

    then route them on the board. but i must admit, i don't fully understand

    your post.

    In the required process to replicate both a circuit to the schematic and

      its matching board layout, only one file is open at a time.  After all

    copies are made, both files are kept open and the process of "cleaning

    up" the inconsistencies begins.  In this case, as EAGLE does its

    renaming thing, it has disconnected the signal from the pad.

    While I cannot get an airwire to connect to the pad (and this rename the

    signal to match the schematic, the "SHOW" command does highlight it...

     

    At present, adding a part to the schematic does not add the part to the

    board if I remember correctly, but will try that again.  If so, that may

    only be true as long as the inconsistencies exist.

    maybe you can disconnect the offending pad in the schematic and then

    reconnect it to cause eagle to forward annotate to board, then you can

    route the new airwire?

     

    and yeah, i once got a schematic and board out of sync, not fun. can be

    a true nightmare.

    Turns out the solution was pretty simple.

    1. Add a wire (not route) on the appropriate layer near the pad needing

    an air wire connection to it.

    2. Rename the wire to the pad name, and an air wire is made.

     

    This technique also worked well to force an air wire to the center of a

    pad to thus provide for a clean routed trace: If the air wire is not on

    the pad center, add a wire, rename, and the rip it up.  An air wire is

    left behind, ready for the final routing operation.

     

    Also proved having additional parts placed on the schematic will again

    automatically appear in the board- once both are again consistent.
