restricting inner layers

autodeskguest

I have a 4 layer design with power and ground filling both internal layers

with no internal routing just vias.  I want to set up a restriction to

prevent the power plane filling an area.  How do I set up the internal

restriction?

There is no direct way to do this.

All restrictions works on top and bottom layers, only.

I have a pcb antenna myself with same problem. I did make signals on all

4 layers, and then made 2=polygon fill gnd and 15=polygon fill with vcc

    Hi Tony,

You might be better off just turning the inner layers into supply

layers. Since you're not running any traces through those layers then

    you can use this option.

Using the DISPLAY command select your inner layers and using the change

button you can set them to supply layers. Remeber that these are

negative layers so if you route any tracks on them they will be removed.

If you don't want the autorouter to touch those layers you can turn them

off on the autorouter setup the first tab. Where you see the layer

preferred directions you can set the layer to N/A not available and the

    autorouter won't route to it.

If you just want the vias placed and routed then you can use this little

trick. First Disable your optimize runs, then set your via cost to zero,

and finally type 9999 in the field that allows you to limit the number

    of vias per connection.

When you run the autorouter EAGLE will automatically run vias near all

    ground and power pins.

    hth,

if I understand your question correctly, you want some areas with no

fill, open in other words, on your internal planes.

if this is the case, use polygons on the inner layers to make the planes

and simply don't draw them over the areas where you want it to be open.

Besides using multiple polygons to cover the area (as Gary already

suggested), have a look at the attached board file for an alternative.

Also a closed wire frame will keep the polygon pour out of it's area.
