HELP WITH MAKING PCB

hennessey12
hennessey12 over 7 years ago

I was given a pdf file of a schematic and a netlist. I am trying to make a board without making the schematic in EAGLE. is there a way that I could upload the netlist into the PCB after I added the parts from the library so that it could create airwires? I am new to EAGLE. Suggestions will be very much appreciated. thank you.

    Hi

While what you are suggesting sounds simple there would be a lot of work

to achieve it. The net list would have to be in the form of an Eagle

script. All the elements(packages/footprints) you placed on the board

would need to be named to match the names in the netlist and the

contacts (pad names) would need to be the same as in the netlist.

It is nearly always better to duplicate the schematic from the pdf.

As you select and add the components to the schematic and connect the

pins with the NET tool the airwires will be in place on the board.

If new to eagle, ensure you do some tutorials on the process of creating

a schematic and then laying out the board.

If you are going to be playing around in electronics and working with PCBs, this is a great time to learn working with eagle.  Go ahead and jump in and create the schematic and then layout the board.  Jumping into the middle and going straight to the board would be far more difficult and you will just have to face the learning curve on the next project.

There are a lot of people on this site would could help you with any questions you have on your way.

    Good Luck,

    Gene

It's possible, but it would involve quite a bit of work and custom

    programming.

For example, I wrote a program that read a netlist and the bitmap image

of a 2200-component schematic and generated the commands to create a

matching schematic in Eagle. It took several days to write (and I'm a

professional software engineer) and depended heavily on many

    characteristics of those input files.

Unless you have an urgent need to do it, and the schematic is too large

to enter by hand, I strongly suggest entering your schematic into Eagle

so you can run a proper ERC. You can also use Eagle scripting to output

Eagle's netlist in the same format as the netlist you've been given and

compare the two to make sure the schematic in Eagle matches.

But, yes, it CAN be done.
