need to remove pads on a chip

Former Member
Former Member over 14 years ago

Need some assistance getting rid of four pads that should not exist, it is

messing with pcb-gcode and these pads are not nessesary.  Need to get this

done without messing up the consistency between the schematic and board.

These pads are not actually connected to pins but show up on the board, it

is a QFN28 chip and shows corner pads which dont actually do anything.

I wanted to attach a picture of what Im talking about but cant due to size

limit.

Thanks in advance.

Andy

If you can locate the device AND the package of the IC, then you can

delete the pads.  So, basically, the steps are:

    1. Make the EaglePart of the IC, just in case you have to refer that back.

    2. Open the *.lbr file that contains the device for the IC.

    3. Click on the Device button and select the device for that IC.

    4. Disconnect all the pins connected to the pads that you want to

    remove.  Save it.

    5. Click on the Package button and select the package for that IC.

    6. Right click on each of the pads you want to delete and delete it.

    Save the file.

    7. Click on the Symbol button and select the symbol for that IC.

    8. Right lick on each of the I/O pin that were created for the pads you

just delete and delete those pins.  Save the file.

    9. Reload your schematic/brd files and select Library and update the

*.lbr file that contains the IC package/device/symbol that you just

    modified per the above steps.

    Hope the above helps.

    Hi Andy,

Are you referring to a pad in the middle of the package? That's used for

heat dissipation and may or may not be connected depending upon the

    manufacturer's recommendation.

    Hopefully helpful,

    Jeff Long.

I'm having issues on step 4-6:

    4. Disconnect all the pins connected to the pads that you want to remove.

    Save it.

    5. Click on the Package button and select the package for that IC.

    6. Right click on each of the pads you want to delete and delete it. Save

    the file.

When I try to edit the device, I cannot find an option to disconnect pins from pads.
I can right-click the package and click connect, here I can disconnect pin 2 from pad 2. When I try to delete the pad in the package, Eagle throws the following error:

"Cannot delete pad 2 because it is connected to a pin"

How do I disconnect pins from pads in the device?

    Best,

    F

    Hi,

look at the"Connect-Dialog" in then Device.

    There is a "disconnect" Button.
