Hello?

Any thoughts on this? Can anyone reproduce this artifact?

Unfortunately, I've not seen the original discussion about it, so I don't know if I can reproduce it or not (or at least have a go).

    What, roughly, were you doing?

    Hi Jason,

I attached the schematic and layout files to the original message. This bug

does not exist in version 5. the first time I saw it was in a PCB on which

I had a via/mounting hole near the origin. To make sure I don't have any

silkscreen too close to the pad, I turn on solder mask and do a DRC because

it will tell me if a part of the silkscreen is too close.

On this and all my other PCBs done in version 5 and earlier, I never had an

error. In Version 6, for some reason the component name/value are placed

invisibly near the origin. when I turn on the stop mask and run a DRC, this

invisible text shows up in the stop mask of the pad/via and generates

dozens of errors. These errors mask and make it very hard to find real

    errors.

    The steps to replicate it:

    1. Create a simple schematic with a connector near the origin. Other

components may work. I just choose a random connector from the supplied

libraries. I originally found it with a 2 pin MTA connector I had modified.

However, it seems to happen with any random connector and I suspect it will

    happen with any component.

    2. Create PCB

    3. Create a large Via, like 0.5 inch drill

    4. Put the Via at 0, 0

    5. Turn on the top stop mask layer

    6. Do a DRC check

    7. The name of the component shows up in the Via Stop Mask and causes all

    sorts of stop mask errors.

    The attached project shows this.

    Thanks

    David

    Hi,

Thanks for that - since I'm on the element14 web site, I don't have the attachment. But I'm pretty sure there's enough there for me to reproduce it and video it.

I'm kind of enjoying reproducing bugs atm image

    Thanks CadSoft!

Well, I was going to have a go at recording it tonight (last night got a bit hectic), and I saw that 6.1.0 had been released.

I've not been able to reproduce it in this version - although it might be because I'm on a Mac here, or my reproduction procedure isn't working.

    Anyway, worth a shot upgrading...

    Hi,

It took a while (and I had to go to the eaglecentral.ca web site to see your screenshot), but I have reproduced it.

It doesn't happen if you don't have vector fonts enabled (i.e. if it's proportional, it doesn't happen). Most of the default components use proportional fonts, which is probably why other people haven't reproduced it (if they've tried).

The DRC rules do appear valid - but only if the text had actually been placed there!

I'll try to make a video of it tonight on my Mac (I've got the full Eagle license there - but not at work).
