Library definitions in XML

OK, lacking a diode quad symbol, I decided to make my own.  Or, rather, I stole a symbol from geda and converted it with an awk script.  But, when I try to read the library in with the <connects>, it objects.  Any ideas why this is?  And, just for amusement, here is my code:

The symbol pins are named 1 thru 4

That may well be the issue.

Warren --- thanks!   Sometimes you just need another set of eyes.

Now to get back to the work of trying to get the attachment points in the right place.  Does anyone happen to know what (a) length="short"  and (b) direction="pas" mean in the <pin> section?
