I'm a young engineer with extensive experience working on EAGLE. My interests include Power Supply design and LED solid state lighting, and I'm always impressed by a well designed PCB.

    Hello,

I have found an issue with a component in one of the eagle libraries, who do we contact to let them know what the issue is?

    Thanks

    Hi,

there are User Language Programs that allow to generate 3D data. This are projects initated by EAGLE customers. Please take a look at the download area of www.cadsoft.de. In the ULP direcotry search for

    acis-sat.ulp
ACIS-SAT exports an ACIS model of the PCB as a Standard ACIS Text (SAT)   file in units of inches. The ACIS model includes a 1/16" thick cuboid  (rectangular slab) with holes. Importing this type of model into a CAD package is useful for enclosure design. The vector-based nature of the file enables importing CAD packages to support snapping to PCB features including hole centers. Many 3D CAD packages support SAT files including AutoCAD, Inventor, CADKEY, Solid Edge, SolidWorks, IronCAD  and more.  Uploaded by Ed Slatt <ed.slatt at pcbsingles.com> from PCB Singles

    eagle_to_3d_4_0.ulp
EAGLE-TO-3D…Version 4.0 has been upgraded to allow the user to Enable/Disable 3D Mapping Assumptions. When 3D Mapping Assumptions are enabled, a larger percentage of detailed 3D models will appear on the generated 3D Board.
When entering the IDF-TO-3D tool, the user can accept, reject, or replace these 3D mapping assumptions. After acceptance or replacement of mappings, IDF-TO-3D will remember the mappings for future 3D boards. When mapping  assumptions are disabled, EAGLE-TO-3D Version 4.0 will work like previous revisions and only map components from the EAGLE Supplied Libraries.  Version 4.0 also allows the user to modify the board thickness.  A single button click creates your 3D PCB directly from EAGLE.  Thousands of EAGLE Library Components are mapped to 3D models. The ULP
also includes free use of the IDF-to-3D tool that allows users to connect additional unmapped footprints to 3D models. Generate a free 3D PDF file,  purchase a 3D STEP file, or purchase a 3D Printer Prototype.  Receive a free 3D Printer Prototype with your PCB-POOLRegistered order.

    generate_3d_data.ulp and generate_3d_data_eng.pdf
ULP for generating 3d data for 3D-MCAD systems and the help file  of Generate 3D Data translated to English. File format:  IDF3.0 (IDB:board, IDL:libary)   Uploaded by Neubacher Andreas <a.neubacher at commend.com> from
    Commend International GmbH

    3d_ulp_v2.2.zip
3D ULP by Søren Theodorsen Making PRO Engineer 3D assembly files from EAGLE files using IDF and DXF. Documentation and example are included. Works with EAGLE 5.11-6.2 and ProEngineer WF5. Version 2.2: Fixed a bug where dimension layer arc were discrete to 10 degrees. Fixed a bug where circles in dimension were not made as holes.

    Hi Bobby,

please check the option "Auto set route width and drill" in the Options/Set/Misc menu. If it is not set it should work as you expect.

May I simply quote from the manual...

    8.14 Arbitrary Pad Shapes
If you have to define a package with solder areas that can't be achieved with the default pad shapes, you have to draw an arbitrary pad shape. This can be done with the help of a polygon or with additional wires. As soon as the center of the pad or SMD is inside the polygon's area or a wire begins at the center of a pad, it is recognized as a part of the PAD/SMD.
The typical way to draw an arbitrary pads shape is:
 Place a PAD or SMD
 Use POLYGON to draw the final pad shape
For a SMD typically in Layer Top
For a PAD you have to draw the final shape in all the layers you plan to use (Top, Bottom, Inner layers...)
The PAD/SMDs center must be inside the polygon's area. Otherwise that polygon is not recognized as a part to the pad. Use a reasonablewire width for the polygon, which fulfils the Design Rules.
 The alternative to POLYGON is WIRE
Start the wire in the origin of the PAD/SMD. You have to draw this area in any signal layer you plan to use. Please use a reasonable wire width, which fits to the Design Rules.
 Check the solder stop mask

Mask data will be generated for the PAD/SMD area only. Display layers 29, tStop and 30, bStop. If you want to have the area not
covered by solder stop lacquer, draw it manually in the appropriatelayer(s).
 Check the cream frame (solder paste mask)
Display layers 31, tCream and 32, bCream for this. As we agreed upon defining packages always on the top side of a board, the layer we have to check is 31, tCream. Mask data will be generated automatically for the SMD area only. If this is not what you would
like to have, simply draw the mask manually. Keep in mind that it ispossible to switch off automatic generation of mask data in the SMD properties (Cream on/off).
Further conditions for drawing arbitrary pad shapes can be found in the helpfunction about the PAD or SMD command.

    Regards,

    Richard

THe Question link above is broken so I did a reply instead. My Question is:

How do I connect a Net of say 16 mil to a net of 40 mil without Eagle CAD changing the size of either net wire size ?

    Thanks ahead of time,  Bobby

I'd be great to remember everything... I hope you can help.

I need to make a "breakout board" for the Texas Instruments CC3000 WiFi module.  I know they are sold, but I'd much rather make my own.  AM I missing the footprint files in Cadsoft somewhere?

    Chuck and Jorge,

Thanks very much for your insight, I will most definitely have to read the microchip article and the shorts lib as well.
